Reviews mention

  • Smooth, approachable mouthfeel
  • Vanilla-forward flavor profile
  • Cocktail-friendly versatility
  • Attractive, minimalist packaging
  • Artificial, candle-like aftertaste
  • Muted, inauthentic agave character
  • Inconsistent bottle-to-bottle quality
  • Polarizing, sweetness-dominant palate

818 Tequila earns polarized reviews: enthusiasts praise its smooth, easy-drinking profile and vanilla-forward notes across Blanco and Reposado, while critics argue it tastes artificial—likened to birthday cake candles, plastic, or rubbing alcohol—and lacks authentic agave character. Reviews cite enjoyable sipping, crowd-friendly cocktails, and some love for Añejo/Extra Añejo, but also inconsistent quality, off-putting aftertaste, and frequent last-place finishes in blind tastings, making it better as a mixer than a connoisseur’s pour.

  • I don't drink much these days, but my roommates usually have 818 around during pregames. I've tried a few times. I think it's pretty tasty, but I think the branding is absolutely fantastic. Gets me going.

  • I have enjoyed 818 tequila! It has an interesting vanilla aftertaste that I like better than other tequilas. I can actually take shots of this (and I have a pretty hard time with tequila shots usually!). Would definitely buy again.

  • There are better, great-tasting, less expensive tequilas out there. This is mostly celebrity hype.

  • I know this isn’t an “authentic” tequila (Kardashian-Jenner-fied) but it’s good. I love that it’s vanilla-y and easy to drink

  • It's gross tequila. Like rubbing alcohol. Cute branding, but it's Kendall Jenner's so we knew that would happen. There are cheaper, better tequilas.

    The taste

  • I drink tequila regularly and have tried my fair share of brands. So I was excited to taste 818 when it first launched. I purchased the Blanco, which I used to make my usual cocktail: 2oz tequila, .75 triple sec, 1/2 fresh lime and a dash of agave. I figured it would give a fair comparison to what I normally drink. Unfortunately, the vanilla-like aftertaste that lingers after taking a sip of your cocktail is far too overwhelming for me. Despite trying another concoction -- this time, adding jalapeno to spice it up -- I could still not get past the vanilla taste in the tequila. For the price and the hype, I was let down and would not buy again. In fact, I still have the original bottle I purchased months ago because I never want to use it for drinks!

  • I was out last night at a new Hot spot In Philadelphia, they offered 818. I was so excited to try it, only problem was I have a bad history with tequila and struggle with it now. Well lets just say I am back into it. This 818 was so smooth and didn't have that awful after taste. I actually could sip it, there was just a nice taste to it. We got spicy margaritas made and they were INCREDIBLE. I felt it right away, and was nervous for how I would feel today. But I don't even have a headache which is shocking. I am going to buy a bottle for Sundays football game. Very into it.

I didn't know was to except but I am pleasantly happy with 818. Hoping my local stores have it for sale. Not sure on the price point but it is worth it I think.

  • This tequila is really interesting! It has a strong aftertaste but you'll end up having the best night of your life! More like a really party drink which I love! price is okay but you won't even notice it's gone because of too much partying :D

  • The girls and I always make sure we have an 818 bottle for a girls night out! No hang over, the taste isnt bad at all either!

  • 818 has really come into its own. They moved distilleries immediately after launch and use very traditional processes to make a nice lineup of elegant tequilas. Blanco shows lemongrass and hints of vanilla from barrel finishing. Same for repo with more barrel expression. I really like the anejo and extra anejo for complexity. For the price these are very good tequilas now made at NOM 1607 which is a very impressive distillery. If you are looking for very old-school, earthy, herbal tequilas with an aggressive front pallet bite, these are not for you. But for the majority of consumers, these deliver a very nice experience. And they are b-corp, 1% for the Planet and doing amazing work giving back in Mexico building libraries and other community facilities. I don’t know of another young tequila company doing that

  • Hands down best reposado tequila for sipping and Shotz in its price range, tried it chilled and warm in shotz, warm is better it really brings out the beautiful caramel finish of this tequila, someone mentioned who owns it,doesn’t matter who owns it as long as thier making good quality small batch tequila unlike mass produced tequila like patron, give the Reposado a shot, and u won’t give other tequila another look

I'm not a fan but it's not very strong and drinkable

  • I get the fact that this brand wants to be the aesthetic of all tequila but the taste is just not quite right. It does get the job done, but the quality of taste isn’t up to par compared to the rest of the market.
