Reviews mention

  • Creamy, luxurious mouthfeel chocolate
  • Inventive, memorable flavor lineup
  • Chunky, satisfying bar format
  • Ethical, mission-driven sourcing
  • Overly sweet chocolate profiles
  • Thick, hard-to-break pieces
  • Inconsistent caramel texture hardness
  • Limited higher-cacao dark options

Tony’s Chocolonely earns strong reviews for rich, creamy chocolate, inventive flavors like Milk Caramel Sea Salt, Dark Almond Sea Salt, and Dark Milk Pretzel Toffee, plus mission-driven, fair-trade sourcing. Reviews also flag drawbacks: some bars taste overly sweet or bland to dark‑chocolate loyalists, the thick, uneven pieces are hard to break and share, and concerns appear about heavy metals in certain dark varieties and salt intensity in caramel bars.

  • Yummy! Fun gift for a friend or stocking stuffer. The packaging is cute.

  • I love all the different flavors of this chocolate and different variations. The bars aren’t that readily available at all stores and they are on the pricier side. Would definitely buy again if on sale.

  • Tried this after watching John Oliver's segment on the dark side of the chocolate supply chain. Tony’s is going against the monopolies to prove you can make good chocolate and be ethical. They're not trying to extort my money, they just make good chocolate that tastes like good chocolate.

  • This chocolate is super, super rich and you can tell that it's quality chocolate! I personally love chopping it up into smaller pieces and putting it on top of my yogurt. It also bakes quite nicely, as I have used it in chocolate chip cookies (and it tastes sooo much better than regular chocolate chips)

  • Incredible taste and powerful mission? What is not to love. As an American living in Amsterdam, we are very proud of this brand, right in our backyard. The taste is incredible and to know you're buying from an ethical company makes it all the more better. The packaging is fun, even can make great gifts. They also have a wide ranging assortment of different flavors - try the white chocolate rasberry or the eggs for Easter! It's a high quality chocolate you can feel good about.

  • I love the philosophy behind this Dutch chocolate brand: the ethical sourced and compensated workforce, the uneven divisions of the bar... However, testing has revealed that Tony's Chocolonely dark chocolate contains measurable levels of heavy metals. Specifically, their 70% Dark Chocolate bar was found to have lead levels at 134% of California's Maximum Allowable Dose Level (MADL) and cadmium levels at 28% of the MADL. Under California (particularly stringent) laws, it's a risk to get too enamoured with this product.

  • I’m a huge fan of Tony’s chocolate. I’ve tried numerous varieties and have loved them all. My favorite so far is the dark chocolate pretzel bar. It’s perfect for when I’m craving something sweet and salty.

  • I love what they stand for, and yes the price is higher than some, but the taste is great and they are helping this industry in many ways. They have great flavors and the taste alone is worth the money

  • We saw Tony’s chocolates at Target one day. My daughter suggested that it’s good. I was skeptical at first because of the price and size. We got it home and tried a piece. Wow, delicious! We use Tony’s a lot now. Better ingredients, always same taste. I grab the variety bag and stash it (secret pleasure when I need a fix of yumminess). The larger bars are for s'mores, why not right? FYI I share with my friends the deliciousness when we gather too. It’s a staple in our home now. Well done Tonys, keep up the great work!

  • Tony’s makes fun chocolate bars and I pick them up occasionally. They’re very, very sweet (which can be a pro or a con depending on what you like). My fave is by far the dark milk toffee pretzel bar. In a perfect world it would be a much thinner bar with crispier inclusions and darker, silkier chocolate. But I can find this bar in my local grocery and it’s slavery free—that’s a rarity. Not a 10 for me because the chocolate quality isn’t there and the thickness of the bar makes it difficult to eat and impossible to share gracefully. The other flavors I’ve tried have been forgettable but the salty-sweet toffee pretzel is a good combo. If you like the pretzel m&ms, stop buying those and upgrade to this.

  • This chocolate is very rich and the milk chocolate caramel sea salt flavor it’s the best. It is a little on the expensive side but worth it to support an ethical company.

  • A good chocolate and an even better mission. I buy this chocolate because of their mission. The packaging is fun, too! Good.

  • Its so good and worth the price! Its lovely for a weekend snack or everydaysnack😉 good quality chocolate and wide range of flavors. Would recomend!

  • I get the milk chocolate. One of my fav chocolates. Very creamy and smooth. Quite sweet though, so that needs to be your thing

  • Such yummy and high quality chocolate. I’ve tried a bunch of flavors and love them all. Such a great brand mission too!!

  • A *large* bar was gifted to me as a friend and I loved reaching the story and purpose of the chocolate...but I also loved the chocolate itself. It was THICK and substantial so I ate it over several days (and I usually don't have self control, but there was so much). Make a great gift!
