Reviews mention

  • Convenient, portable meal replacement
  • Plant-based, dairy-free formulation
  • Broad, appealing flavor variety
  • Satiating, functional nutrition
  • Chalky, thick mouthfeel
  • Strong, lingering aftertaste
  • Occasional gastrointestinal discomfort
  • Inconsistent long-lasting satiety

Soylent draws polarized reviews: the brand reliably delivers convenient, nutrient-dense meal replacements that keep many users reasonably full on the go, yet taste and texture often disappoint. Reviews credit flavors like Creamy Chocolate, Banana, Mint, and Strawberry as standouts and note plant-based, non-dairy accessibility, but cite chalky thickness, strong aftertaste, occasional GI upset (linked to allulose), inconsistent satiety as a full meal, and packaging quirks like hard-to-open caps and easy-to-tear wraps.

  • I wanted to try something to help with my eating disorder and this helped but left me still hungry.

    Feedback

Its kind of expensive and kept me hungry.

  • It's a convenient product but the taste is just bleh. If you are looking for a quick drink on the go with the nutrients you need to stay full this is a good choice. If you want to eat for pleasure skip this one.

    Feedback

The after taste is strong and it's very apparent it's a replacement shake

  • Packed with nutrients, and for the most part, tastes great. My favorite flavor is the creamy chocolate and I like to enjoy Soylent on the go, between meetings, or just after a hard workout when I'm too lazy to cook.

    Feedback

Some of the flavors have a bit of a chalky aftertaste.

  • Meh, I found these okay. If you're a tech bro with no time for real meals, then maybe (I worked at a small startup this spring and when i tell u they had cases of these). At least there is a good flavor range.

  • Not a big fan of Soylent. It really puts me off. It doesn't taste good in my opinion

  • I've been drinking and enjoying Soylent for a while, however the one problem l've had during my entire time using it has been the fact the bottles are excruciatingly hard to open. I usually get my wife's trainer to open it for me when he comes to our house to train my wife. However this is inconvenient and I can't schedule my day around him helping me open the bottle. Any recommendations to make the bottle easier to open? If you do see this Soylent please make it easier to open!!!

  • DO NOT OPEN A SUBSCRIPTION WITH THIS COMPANY! I had been using Soylent products off and on since they were created. I remember watching the interviews with the guy who invented it sitting at his computer and talking about how he got frustrated at making time to eat. I was a really big fan. I had a subscription and everything. I occasionally skipped an order when money was tight, but their sms system made that really easy. Until it didn’t. On Sunday, December 24th, I got a message about my upcoming delivery. I was really relieved, because with the holidays I really couldn’t afford it right now. So, like normal when funds were tight, I skipped the shipment. I RECIEVED TEXT MESSAGE CONFIRMATION THAT MY ORDER WAS BEING SKIPPED AND WOULD NOT BE RENEWED UNTIL APRIL 22. Naturally, when the product showed up a week later at my doorstep, I was perplexed. I contacted the company, where I was informed that I was being billed, the order did go through, and they made it seem like it was my fault - I suppose in a way it was, my fault for opening a subscription with them. I asked if I could return the product and cover shipping, they declined. I offered to return the product and meet them halfway (cover half the cost), and they declined. I have filed a complaint, but I haven’t heard anything substantial yet. I just didn’t want this to happen to anyone else, so I thought I’d start sharing my experience. I will modify this review if the company gets in contact with me.

  • It's so hard to find a meal replacement shake that is not dairy based! I've tried Creamy Chocolate Meal Replacement Shake and it was great! I would purchase this again and recommend it if asked.

  • I was pleasantly surprised that a shake of 600 calories (two scoops) would make me feel full. I was also surprised with the starter pack that gave me a cup with a steel wired ball in it that would mix it perfectly making it very convenient. Since it's completely plant based, I do eat a steak every couple days because I am not convinced a plant based diet can really fill all the nutrition a human body needs. Factoring in the price of Soylent and the steaks, my grocery bill has gone down about $300 a month so far. I have no advice on how to make it better, since it's fulfilling my needs perfectly right now.

  • I recently had a surgery, and my pre/post op instructions including consuming a LOT of protein daily. I tried a few Soylent flavors alongside different brands, and only repurchased Soylent (specifically creamy chocolate and banana). I was transported back in time to being a kid drinking ovaltine, or eating a banana pudding. The product actually tastes good and is something I want to drink protein aside. The branding is also very nice. I appreciate how they break down ingredients to their base and then anything special in that flavor. I wish that the branded wrap wasn’t so easy to remove from the bottle (if you twist the cap the wrong way, it tears it). I hope to see them move away from plastic soon. Id prefer a stainless steel or glass bottle than plastic.

  • Love the taste and texture of both the pre-made shakes and powder. My two biggest issues with their product is the price and the fact that it doesn't really leave me feeling full. As a side note, my favorite is the chocolate and I always throw in some instant coffee.

  • The taste was OK, but very oily. (I only tried the chocolate.) I had purchased a month supply, as I was looking for a daily protein boost drink as a snack in between meals. These causes EXTREME, uncomfortable bloating and gas. I had to quit drinking them all together. For the price, paired with side effects, they weren’t worth it. Not something I’d return to. Some of my bottles came with no labels too?? Was odd.

  • Soylent is the worst product that exists. It tastes bad, ruins the digestive system, and represents everything wrong with the world. Real food (aka not Soylent) creates community, provides jobs, nourishes the body so it can function properly, and creates pleasure! Soylent does none of these things. All it does is satisfy tech bros who wouldn't know a good product if it hit them in the face.

    Literally everything could use improvement.

  • Don’t get me wrong these are fine! If soy based products were more of my thing I would probably like it more, I tend to prefer the taste of oat products!

The biggest improvement could be overall texture and the after taste

  • I’ve survived just on Soylent powder with occasional meals out with friends etc for a period of months while renovating my house. During that period, I renovated, worked out and did my normal 9-5. I can’t say I noticed any difference between my energy, mood or focus. It works! That’s a big deal. In terms of flavor, the chocolate wasn’t for me. I finally settled on vanilla which has a definite malty flavor combined with a vanilla wheat protein powder from Aldi’s. That tasted like a less creamy salted caramel milkshake, which is just delicious, no apologies or qualifiers necessary. I docked a star because the standard powder is a little more carb heavy than what I aspire to with normal food diet, and have since switched to a competing product, Huel Black, for times when I’m too busy to prepare a normal meal. I didn’t like any of the flavors st all until I tried peanut butter. It’s not as good as the Soylent Aldo’s protein powder combo but I’ll sacrifice some amount of pleasure for health purposes. They’ve since added a bunch of other flavors and also has jumped into prepared meals with grain bowls with Thai, Italian and Mexican flavor profiles. The Thai is my personal fave. To be fair and less like an ad for Huel, I should say that I haven’t sampled new products from Soylent or even familiarized myself with their lineup since late 2020. They may very well have caught up. I did try their protein powder additive which does pretty much the same thing as Huel Black.

I would like to know more about their efforts to get this product to low income and food insecure people as this was a BIG part or their initial spiel. It’s in Walmart and Target for the same price as on the website. If they haven’t reached economy of scale efficiency necessary to subsidize costs yet, it’s either probably not possible, or they don’t care as much as they claimed to. Also prepared foods on something other than milkshake and snack bar form.

  • I found these at Walmart and after reading the flavors I had to get the. I bought 2 the green and red one and they were both so good. I liked the green mint one more which surprised me as I normally don't like minty taste. They suppressed my appetite and filled me up. I really liked them and I would buy more and recommend.

  • The taste wasn’t bad but the consistency was a little thick.

  • I always get the chocolate one from target and make sure to have half a dozen in my pantry at all times. Perfect for when I’m running late or will be on the road for a while, or even when I’m too nauseous to have real food

  • We purchased these for the office for a few months, first as a joke but later because it saved us time not to leave. Plus we were collectively trying to stay healthy. The product has grainy texture and tastes like you're eating cardboard (at least the basic one). We never stuck around to taste the flavored drinks. Our biggest debate in the office has always been how healthy these drinks really are.
