SmartSweets earns largely positive reviews as a lower‑sugar candy that satisfies cravings—standouts include Sweet Fish, Peach Rings, Sourmelon Bites, red twists, and gummy worms—while recurring complaints in reviews cite an extremely sticky, tooth‑clinging texture and occasional odd or stevia‑like aftertaste. Reviews also note inconsistent chew across flavors and batches, plus some GI sensitivity for a few users; if you want a healthier candy fix and can accept a different chew, SmartSweets is a compelling swap, but purists may prefer the originals.
AI summary based on Thingtesting reviews
don’t love them, very sticky and get stuck in your teeth and have a bothersome chemical sweetness
They tasted yummy
These are quite a decent and affordable low-sugar candy brand, the variety is really wonderful and the gummies have a great texture similar to other brands on the market.
I periodically try a bag of SmartSweets out of vegan desperation, and I'm always left a bit disappointed. Better to just eat real sugar and knock the craving out. They don't taste quite right.
Healthier versions of all the favorites, of all the staples - what is not to love?

Awful. It's like chewing on scrunchie. Can barely taste the flavor since it's not sweetened enough (I know that's the point). Not even a good alternative for a snack to be honest. Maybe they need to try xylitol?
I think these are a good alternative to the candy I grew up with, but it's not the most amazing thing I've tried. It tastes quite artificial (same as regular candy), but I like the option if you have kids or want a sweet treat but not the shitty stuff. I like the Peach Ring look-a-likes the most.
I am a sucker for candy - especially on a long hike or after a run as a little boost. I want to love SmartSweets - but I am always so disappointed with the aftertaste. They taste like artificial sweetener or have some kind of chemical-y taste - hopefully the formula improves because I'd love a great alternative.
i love the taste, chewiness, and the less bad for you idea of the gummies but i’ve heard the whole foods one is superior and i’ve only tried the whole foods one but it’s actually delicious and i feel less guilty about eating sugar with these
I really wanted to love this brand, especially the gummies. The flavors were lacking, and the gummys were SO sticky they were stuck in my teeth so much that I had trouble chewing and swallowing the candy. I'd like to try the chocolates, but overall not impressed with the gummy rings, watermelons and worms.
I had it such a long time ago but I do remember eating all of it and not feeling guilty eating a high sugar candy that got into my teeth and again I just remember I finished the bag. I love candy so if this is a healthier option the better for me.
I love the sweet fish. Not too sweet and hits the spot when I have a sweet tooth.
edit: recently tried these again and thought they were yum! i really enjoyed the sweet fish :) old review: these are OK for a healthier treat, but they aren't very satisfying — most of the eating experience is untangling them from your teeth, and they are pretty tasteless (and I'm very used to/cool with artificial sweetener flavors!) at that point, I'd rather just have a piece of fruit if I'm craving something sweet and want to be healthy.
Nice
As someone who has a hugeee sweet tooth, you can’t go wrong !

Great candy for when you are watching your diet!!
Super tasty, but unfortunately hurt my stomach. Also think it is quite expensive for the amount of product you actually receive in the bag.
great alternative to regular candy!
Sooooooo good!
