SmartSweets earns largely positive reviews as a lower‑sugar candy that satisfies cravings—standouts include Sweet Fish, Peach Rings, Sourmelon Bites, red twists, and gummy worms—while recurring complaints in reviews cite an extremely sticky, tooth‑clinging texture and occasional odd or stevia‑like aftertaste. Reviews also note inconsistent chew across flavors and batches, plus some GI sensitivity for a few users; if you want a healthier candy fix and can accept a different chew, SmartSweets is a compelling swap, but purists may prefer the originals.

  • I'm obsessed with Smart Sweets peach rings - I bought a package of these on a whim to keep at my desk when I'm craving a little something to munch on during the day. The flavor is great, which I didn't anticipate with a low sugar sweet. My only gripe is the packages are on the small size - would love if they made a bigger bag, but I'll take what I can get!

  • Awesome option if you have a sweet tooth but don't want all of the sugar. The flavor I tried had a bit of an aftertaste, and they will 100% get stuck in your teeth. I would still choose these if I was in the mood for some sour candy but would maybe try a different flavor.

  • Hands down the best low to no sugar candy. So close to the “real thing”. You will also find that you eat less of these than you might their full sugar counterpart. My favorites are the peach rings, I forget that I’m making a “healthy” choice because I’m enjoying it so much. I knocked down a star because the product is expensive and you don’t get a lot in a bag, however I will continue to purchase.

  • I was definitely influenced to buy smart sweets after seeing some influencer post about them. However, they are delicious and guilt free. They satisfy my sweet tooth. My favorite are the sour worms followed by the gummy bears. The only other variety I tried in the Swedish fish — but those had a very strange after taste and I wouldn’t repurchase. Some mom friends also use the lollipop versions to help their kids ears pop on planes. It is a much better alternative than a regular sugar filled lollipop. I just wish they weren’t as pricey!

  • These are good! I was wary of a “healthier” candy option, but these taste really good. I hate fake sugar flavors like Stevia but didn’t detect that at all in the types I have tried. My kids also like them and it feels like a better option than some of the traditional gummy candies, though in moderation those are also allowed. My one complaint is these can be super hard/sticky, my teeth hurt after eating a mini bag of the watermelons last week but I couldn’t stop myself from finishing the bag…

  • I've only had the Swedish fish version but they were truly horrible. They tasted like straight chemicals. They were a solid reminder that candy is good and sweet and tastes a certain way BECAUSE of the sugar. Maybe if I'd started with a flavor that wasn't supposed to represent a different candy I'd feel differently. It's like why make vegan "chicken nuggets", can't we just make a vegan product without having to disguise it as it's meat counterpart?

  • Be prepared for a slight sticker shock. SmartSweets tend to be pricier than your average bag of sugar bombs. This is understandable, considering the specialized ingredients and smaller production runs. But it's something to consider if you're on a tight budget.

  • I buy a pack or two nearly every time I grocery shop. I eat a low sugar diet but I have a sweet tooth! I love all the flavors but the Red Twists, Peach Rings, and Sweet Fish are my favorites. They are expensive in comparison but you won’t miss the regular sugar candy when you eat SmartSweets.

  • I really liked these! I saw some reviews about aftertaste and got nervous but I think I'm one of those people who enjoy the taste of stevia and sugar substitutes so they were fine for me. I love sour candy so the "Sour Blast Buddies" were my favorite but the "Sweet Fish" were really good too! Would recommend if you're trying to cut down on sugar but still want a sweet treat.

  • LOVE this! These were delicious and hit my need for a sweet treat without the carbs

  • Yum!!! Such a good alternative for gummies. I really enjoy the worms and the rings the most. I would recommend this to everyone.

  • The peach rings are the best! They taste pretty close to the real thing!

  • I’ve been a fan of smartsweets for a long time. The fish always have been my favorite, but recently the recipe has changed and I don’t like them quite as much. Also the bags are incredibly expensive for the serving

  • I grabbed the Sweet Fish at Target hoping to find an alternative to the irresistible Swedish Fish. The flavor was not my thing. I've never minded the taste of natural sugar free sweeteners (I love a stevia sweetened soda) but these didn't taste right. The artificial sweetness was overpowering and the classic swedish fish flavor did not come through. I didn't finish the bag. They're not so terrible I would never eat them again, but for now I'm sticking to my Trader Joe's Scandinavian Swimmers.

  • Had been wanting to try these for a very long time but never wanted to spend the money. Got them for free at an event, took one bite of the peach rings and couldn't eat the rest, sadly. Caramels were decent though. Disappointing.

  • I love Smart Sweets. I find myself grabbing for the products more often than not, especially when I am craving a sweet treat with less sugar. My only complaint is that the gummies are often times hard to chew and get stuck big time in your teeth. It makes it hard to want to continue to eat them, but the flavor is there.

  • I must admit these are tasty as hell howeverrrr they are quite pricy for when I just need a quick little candy fix which is very often (I get it though) . And they get really chewy and stuck in your teeth sometimes... other than that great mission, great people, great taste

  • Super tasty products, if your GI system can handle them. I can't eat even a single serving package without experiencing pain and bloating unfortunately!

  • I tried the SmartSweets Sweet Fish hoping that it would be just as good as Swedish Fish. The experience was a bit dissatisfying. It is less sweet than candy and has a good gummy chew, but it leaves a weird film in your mouth that is hard get over. I don’t hate that they add in fiber to offset the net carbs (net carbs = sugar - fiber), but Allulose, the sweetener that they use has a history of causing gastrointestinal distress.

  • Swedish Fish are very tasty but do get stuck in your teeth a bit more than traditional candy. The caramels are also delicious. I don't really notice any artificial aftertaste. Nice way to get some sweet treats without feeling too guilty.
