I am extremely disappointed with how Rowan handled my situation regarding my ear piercing and jewelry loss. From the beginning, I was very transparent about my medical history, including the fact that I am diabetic and concerned about proper healing and keloid prevention. I was reassured multiple times that the jewelry was secure and appropriate for long-term wear. At no point during my initial appointment or follow-up was it clearly explained to me that the threadless flat-back earrings could loosen over time, that they rely solely on tension, or that they are not loss-proof. That information was only provided after I experienced a loss and reached out for help. Additionally, I was never given written documentation or verbal instruction explaining that the jewelry needs to be bent or checked periodically to maintain tension. This explanation came later and differed by location, which highlights a serious lack of consistency across Rowan studios. For a company that presents itself as a medical-grade, nurse-led brand, consistent education and communication should be standard, not optional. I have spent over $500 with this company and followed all care instructions. The loss occurred after a medical MRI situation that required my jewelry to be removed and reinserted by Rowan. Despite that context, I was told that no replacement could be offered because it was outside a rigid 30-day window regardless of medical circumstances or lack of proper disclosure at the time of purchase. While customer service representatives were polite, the responses felt scripted and dismissive, repeatedly restating policy rather than acknowledging the core issue: expectations were not clearly set upfront, and information was inconsistent between locations. I expected better from a brand that markets safety, professionalism, and trust. Unfortunately, this experience has shown me that when something goes wrong, Rowan prioritizes policy over accountability and patient experience. I hope Rowan takes this feedback seriously and improves transparency and consistency so future clients are not put in the same position.

I am directing this communication to Micaela, who I am told is the manager of the Rowan in Whalt Whitman Shops. Tonight, Friday January 2, 2026 my daughter and wife had a 6 pm appointment for ear piercing. We arrived and checked in with "Emily". We then waited almost forty (40) minutes. After these forty (40) minutes, the nurse "Tyra" took two individuals who did not have an appointment and had arrived after us. After 25 more minutes, they walked out of the room and the nurse told us we would still have to wait. At this pint I asked the nurse why people who did not have appointments and who arrived after us were serviced first? I had already expressed to Emily that we had been waiting more than 45 minutes. The nurse Tyra initially said she had not pierced their ears, just "looked at them". I had two problems with this. First, they clearly had pierced ears and PAID FOR THE PIERCING as she was telling me this. Second, regardless, we had an appointment and had been waiting first. I told her this was unprofessional, at which point the nurse Tyra said she doesn't have to do anything and refused us service. I approached Emily and asked her if she was the manager. She said no. I asked her what the policy was regarding appointments and arrivals and she said she did not know the policy. While I was having this conversation, the nurse Tyra went to get security and tried to have us thrown out. The nurse Tyra told the security that we had refused to pay. This was yet another lame lie and even Emily could not go along with it. I explained to security that we had an appointment, had waited and entire hour and then were refused service. The nurse Tyra then stated that asking for the name of the manager constituted a "threat". As a customer with an appointment, I firmly believe I have a right to contact management and express my dissatisfaction with the failure of employees to do their job. That is not in any way a "threat". Frankly, the nurse was acting irrational. Even the supervisor of security named Wesley agreed that there was something going on here. I will conclude by stating I have been a customer service manager for more than 30 years and have fired people for things like this. A customer should receive the service advertised, should not be threatened, and an employee should not make up absurd lies to try and escape the responsibility for their actions.
I got my ears pierced here for a second hole in each ear. I found it to be clean, professional, and efficient. I think it is geared more towards young girls but still a great service and the people that work there are very knowledgeable.
I got my second set of piercings when I was 12 and one of them closed up in my late 20s, so I went to Rowan to get it repierced. The experience was seamless and it was affordable and I liked that I was going to get pierced by a nurse, instead of paying a ton of money for a simple piercing at a high end piercer or paying a similar price for someone who could be less experienced. I ended up taking a friend to get her second holes there a few months later and while I was waiting, decided to get my conch pierced on a whim! It was great and seamless and they gave us certificates of bravery at the end which was cute. My two "cons" (which aren't that big of a deal): 1. the jewelry is cheap looking, so I swapped out my re- pierced earring when I was healed. 2. They told me I could come back to get the post on my conch swapped out if I ran into issues during healing for free. When I did that, I was charged like $25 for the post. Again, not that big of a deal, I just wish they had been transparent!
Reviewing my piercing experience. I really enjoyed it! My friend and I booked back-to-back appointments and our nurse spent 1 hour on us total, answering all of our questions and letting us take our time figuring out our piercing location and designs. Highly recommend! Given that we had such a great nurse, I would imagine that your experience might be different depending on which location you go to and which nurse you get (and how long you get with them).

I got my ears pierced at one of their studios in New York. I really loved that the piercer was a nurse, the studio was clean and it was easy to book an appointment and be seen on time. We took our time marking the placing for the three new piercings I was getting but my piercer seemed greener than the others and I wish I would have spoken up and requested a more experienced nurse. She was gentle and the actual *piercing* was done with excellent bedside manner BUT she missed the placement point we had identified so one of the piercings is lower on my lobe than I would have liked. As a conflict avoidant queen --I figured there wasn't much I could have done in the moment and just let it be. (Either I could just live with it or remove the jewelry and let it close.) A friend of mine came with me and she had a different nurse/piercer who seemed to be more experienced (maybe even the lead nurse?) -- and she had an amazing experience.

I will likely return again to this same location but will be more discerning about booking the piercer not just the piercing. Since my piercing I have returned to buy earrings (huggies) .The first pair I am wearing as I write this, the second pair have loose hinges and won't stay closed after only 2 weeks. This is disappointing. I will go back and see if they can exchange them but I wont be buying jewelry again from here. Generally, I have to say everyone who works there is so lovely!
