Reviews mention

  • Elegant, minimalist packaging aesthetic
  • Light, refreshing flavor profiles
  • Notably calming, subtle effect
  • Versatile nonalcoholic cocktail alternative
  • Inconsistent functional effects
  • Faint, sometimes medicinal flavors
  • Occasional bitter aftertaste
  • Soft, low carbonation mouthfeel

Recess earns mixed reviews: the brand delivers light, refreshing flavors, sleek packaging, and for many a subtle calming effect, yet it polarizes on taste intensity and the consistency of functional benefits. Reviews praise Strawberry Rose, Blood Orange, Peach Ginger, Blackberry Chai, and coconut lime, but cite faint or medicinal flavors, occasional aftertaste, low carbonation, and uneven “mood” effects—leaving some to view it as elevated seltzer rather than a reliably functional drink.

  • It's nice that I can find a can in my nearby bodega or grocery store. I've nearly tried all the flavors and think they're not bad. I do enjoy the effect it has afterward but I wouldn't place an order for more than 1 at a time.

    Probably a little more carbonation?

  • Perfect way to end the day. Tastes great - not too sweet, but it has more flavor than a regular sparkling water. Definitely feel the effects right away. I would say it makes me feel more relaxed than focused.

  • Wonderful packaging, wonderful brand message - the Recess team has absolutely hit it out of the park!

    More distribution! :)

  • There are tons of adaptogen and CBD drinks out there these days, but this is one of the originals and it still holds up. Each can is fizzy, subtly sweet and super drinkable.

  • Ugh, I really want to like these drinks because the packaging! the super cool flavors! but the aftertaste is just so bad. Also, I don't know how much this bothers other ppl but some of the seemingly creative flavors don't taste original? Will I shamelessly spend money on mediocre products for cute packaging? Yes. If they made new flavors, I would def try them out of curiosity, but I wouldn't want to pay money for these LOL

    No more aftertaste please

  • I first sampled these at a popup in NYC after seeing their buzzy launch online, and then ordered some sets to my house to sample more flavors. I've really come to enjoy them - the flavors are interesting and I don't find them overwhelming. There is a hint of CBD-ish flavor, but I've gotten used to it. However, I don't find that the drink makes me feel much different? I drink them during the workday without noticeable effect. I'm not a big seltzer drinker, and these don't have overwhelming bubbles, so I continue to order for occasional afternoon treats.

    1) I tried some of the Mood line and the messaging seems unclear on the difference. I liked the taste of them less than the original line. 2) I've noticed they've started shipping in plastic-wrapped packs. I emailed customer service (on another matter) and shared my disappointment that they'd transitioned away from recyclable cardboard to introducing thick plastics.

  • Picked these up at a grocery store randomly one night! I think they're a great alternative to soda or alcoholic beverages. They feel elevated in a way that a lot of sodas don't and taste really good. They're pretty pricey for a canned beverage, though.
