Owala earns strong reviews as a highly functional, well‑insulated bottle that stays cold, doesn’t leak when locked, and features the signature FreeSip dual straw-and-chug spout with a hygienic covered mouthpiece. Reviews also flag drawbacks: some lids or stoppers trap moisture and mold, larger sizes feel heavy and don’t fit cup holders, occasional leaking or straw detachment occurs, and certain finishes or rubberized coatings wear or feel sticky over time.
AI summary based on Thingtesting reviews
THE BEST THING WATER BOTTLE OF ALL TIME. I love the option to drink from the built in straw or wide-mouth opening. I’ve never had a problem with leaking and the different color combos are so fun.

I bought 2 free sip Owala bottles from a retail store and they are perfect so I bought a free sip sway from the site (thats the only place I've found them) the first one I got ended up with spots that ate through the 'rust resistant' bottle after a month and the 2nd one I've bought ended up with those same spots after 7 DAYS. I do not have this issue with the ones bought from a retailer only the ones coming STRAIGHT FROM THE SITE. Owala refuses to resolve the issue even after I said I kept both bottles and will send them back for a refund.

I bought my Owala at target a year ago while on vacation. I only drank filtered water in it and cleaned it correctly. What I noticed was was the finish at the inside bottom of it was flaking off and I should not be drinking that. I contacted them about a warranty and they told me their over hyped warranty doesn't cover that. I'm wondering when WOULD their warranty kick in? I'm not buying another one if these overpriced bottles from this company. It's all hype.

Save yourself the money—not only is this not worth the $30+ dollars, the company also refuses to stand by its “lifetime warranty.” We purchased this water bottle to be used in a classroom setting. We used it for less than a week and the top holder (which holds on the lid) snapped off. It wasn’t dropped or used inappropriately—which the company sited as being the reason behind this manufacturer malfunction. Not the fact that this is just cheaply made. Their support team is a joke. So, if you’re looking at this because you think it’s high quality and that the company will stand behind the product, you should go elsewhere. I have had better customer service at Target and Walmart. We will never be using this company again and I encourage you to do the same—unless you’re comfortable with shelling out $30 every week for a new water bottle.

I feel compelled to share my recent experience with Owala Stainless Steel Travel Tumbler with Straw and Handle Cloudscape to inform and caution others about potential issues. My purchase of Owala Tumbler quickly turned into a frustrating ordeal due to significant quality concerns and inadequate customer service. Upon receiving Owala Tumbler, I noticed a concerning stability issue that compromised its functionality and safety. Despite there being no visible damage, the product exhibited instability that suggested a manufacturing defect. Concerned for my safety and disappointed by the product's performance, I reached out to the customer service team. In my correspondence with Taylor from customer service, I detailed the stability issue and expressed my concerns. However, the response I received was less than satisfactory. Instead of acknowledging the severity of the issue, I was met with resistance and a proposed solution of waiting an additional 30-60 days for reassessment. This response was not only impractical but also unacceptable given the potential safety hazards posed by the product's instability. As a consumer, I believe it's crucial to prioritize product safety and customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, Owala's handling of this situation fell short of these expectations. A thorough inspection of the product to assess the reported stability issue and timely resolution are imperative to uphold the brand's reputation for quality and reliability. In conclusion, I advise potential buyers to proceed with caution when considering Owala Tumbler. My experience serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of thoroughly evaluating product quality and customer service before making a purchase decision. Naz

Actually keeps ice cold. Doesn’t fling your drink everywhere like Hydroflask straw top. FreeSip Technology is brilliant.

I love my owala! Fav gym water bottle.

I love that the cap covers the whole opening, so I don't have to worry about putting my mouth on an exposed straw - it feels much more hygienic. My only issue is that I had to replace the rubber piece in the cap, and now it's difficult to close.

I’ve had a few owala water bottles, including the insulated (and plastic) freesip as well as the older twist bottle, and they’ve all been great. I like that the freesip lets you tilt to drink or sip, it’s pretty innovative when every other water bottle functions the same way. I’m not a big fan of exposed straws on other bottles, so this is a great and hygienic alternative. While the insulated bottles are good for keeping your water cold, I like using my old tritan one at the gym since it’s a lot lighter-I wish they’d bring bought those back. Personally, I think the constant stream of releases for new color combinations is a bit tiring. I’d love to see some alternate formats come out instead, like more innovative functionalities.

I love that it's sort of like using a straw without using a straw, if that makes sense. Except the cap keeps everything enclosed. I've also found that the water bottle is easy to take apart for cleaning.

So many companies tried to imitate the freesip that I had to try the original, and I get the hype now. The convenience of the built in straw or talking a big gulp when you need it is never something I would have thought of wanting, but now I'm shocked that it took us this long to get here. The colour combinations are so fun as well, and their collaborations are fun and on trend without being "trendy."
I love my FreeSip! It's so much more motivating to drink water with 2 ways to sip. I also like that the handle locks the top so I can throw it in my bag without having to worry about spills. My one downside is the weight. It's pretty heavy and the shipoing from the DTC site was a bit long but overall, this was a great purchase for me. I'm not a huge water drinker or water bottle collector so this was really worth it to me.
I’m completely obsessed with my Owalas. I have a 24oz bottle that I carry with me everywhere and keep the 40oz at home so I’m never without. They never leak, survive every drop, and honestly make me want to drink more water throughout my day.
The Owala water bottle is by far the best I've owned. Not only is it incredibly stylish but it is amazingly functional. I do quite a bit of traveling and have had some pretty awful experiences with the water bottles I've brought with me on planes. Not Owala though! The bottle stays shut and locked as promised, and doesn't leak a even a drop. The bottle also keeps my water cold, which is a plus. Lastly, the Owala bottle is easy to clean.
I bought this water bottle because while I like having the option of a straw, I want to avoid all the mouth and smile lines that may come along with it. This bottle is perfect. The spout to sip isn’t so big that you’ll accidentally spill all over yourself. Iced water also stays cold throughout the night. Safe to say this is my fave water bottle of all time. Great for gifts, too.

I'm not sure I love any water bottle more than this one! It keeps my water super cold (I always add ice), I can sip easily no matter the position of the water bottle, and I can travel with it without any spills!

I love this water bottle because it keeps my water so COLD for so long! I love the colors it comes in and it isn't too heavy to carry around. I have one big complaint though - if I don't lock it and it tips over it gushes out and makes a huge mess in seconds! This has happened many times since I tend to keep it unlocked while I am using it. I think it's because there are 2 openings, one is a like a straw and the other is a wide opening so the wide opening is where it is pouring out of. If it weren't for that feature I'd rate this the perfect water bottle!

I love my Owala so much. The straw feature is great. I don’t find myself using the spout all that much. I’ve never had an issue with leaking but if I could suggest one improvement it would be keeping the water and ice colder longer!

I love my Owala FreeSip water bottle. I carry it in my tote bag to work, and I love how it's leakproof even if it's on its side. It's easy to clean, too, because each part is removable. I drink a lot more water because of the built-in straw.
I'm an Owala convert! Well, for some things. I drink so much water, I have a few water bottles for different use cases. These are great for hikes and/or long errand days. For traveling or other every day use, it's a little big.
