OLAPLEX reviews and discussion

4.1

77% of reviewers would recommend to a friend

Reviews mention

  • Noticeable bond-repair performance
  • Shine-boosting lightweight oil
  • Salon-fresh purple toning
  • Frizz-smoothing leave-in cream
  • Potential drying shampoo effects
  • Heavy, greasy feel on fine hair
  • Short-lived treatment results
  • Strong pigment staining risk

OLAPLEX earns polarized reviews: many report visibly stronger, smoother, shinier hair—especially with No.3 Hair Perfector, No.6 Bond Smoother, No.7 Bonding Oil, and the 4P Purple Shampoo—while others experience dryness, heaviness, greasiness, or no lasting improvement. Reviews suggest it can work brilliantly for bleached/blonde or damaged hair but may weigh down fine hair and effects may fade without consistent use; some users also mention fragrance concerns and allegations of hair loss or irritation.

  • Makes my hair softer after 1 use, highly recommend if you have dyed hair.

  • Really like this product line. Luxurious hair products that clean well and hydrate well. I like the packaging because it has a minimalist feel but looks expensive

  • My hair goes through a lot. Some may say it's traumatized but I won't stop! About every six weeks I'm processing it in some way and my Olaplex shampoo & conditioner are saving it from breaking and falling out. With regular use (a few times I week it gets washed!) the Olaplex products keep my hair hydrated, shiny, and looking healthy. And that's a big ask of a product but it does the job super well. My sister introduced me to it as a birthday gift since it's a bit pricey and now I give it to others - it's a nice treat if you're not a regular user already.

  • Personally, I do not think this product made a big positive difference in my hair’s health. The smell is nice but it does not last throughout the day if that’s something you’re looking for. Overall I would skip buying this again, it does not seem worth the money.

I think better pricing or a more effective product is needed.

  • Best set of products dedicated to my unique hair style, color, and much-needed TLC.

  • If my rating was based on the shampoo/conditioner alone, it would be 4/5 because I've used the shampoo/conditioner for a few years now and they are good solid staples that have repaired and improved my hair...I don't love them though because they do not hydrate hair (at all). I have to rotate between them and a hydrating shampoo/conditioner from a different brand otherwise my hair ends up looking like dry, frizzy straw...but by rotating them with other hydrating products, I've had pretty good results with my hair overall. In terms of the other products, I realised I had to drop the score down to 3/5 because I've tried a few of them but haven't re-purchased any of them because they are all frustrating in some way...No3 offered the same results as the shampoo/conditioner but was just more annoying to use because you have to wash hair first, then apply No3 and then wait 10 minutes. With the Bonding Oil No7, I didn't notice any real benefits and it was very unforgiving (if you use even the tiniest bit too much, your hair ends up looking greasy/oily). I've still got my bottle of Bond Smoother No6 and its useful when you've got clean hair which you need to give that slightly dirtier/unwashed texture to do styles such as slicked buns and ponytails, its only problem is it can be quite hard to get out of the bottle.

    (1) The packaging is not user friendly - once you are halfway through a bottle, it is so difficult and annoying getting the products out and it just leads to wastage at the end of the product. (2) Olaplex - please please make the shampoo/conditioner hydrating as well.

  • Got the bond repair shampoo & conditioner, both are a must have even though they’re a bit pricey!

    Feedback

The caps are difficult to open when in shower sometimes.

  • I have tied two steps by olaplex, number 3 and and number 1 and both times it worked like a charm, I used number 1 while bleaching my hair blond and my hair afterwards wasn't damaged at all, I really love thisbrand

    Feedback

I think the only improvement could be the price, because it's a little expensive

  • Products work great. I’m not a fan of the smell.

    Feedback

    somewhat pricey

  • Love love love! They’re oil I cannot recommend enough. I’ve been using the shampoo and conditioner for 4 months and have noticed a major difference in the strength and thickness of my hair.

  • The shampoo lathers really well. The No.6 post shower leave-in treatment is great also.

  • I think it worked pretty well. It didn't work like a conditioner really, but my hair felt healthier from inside out not necessarily softer like a conditioner would make it

    Feedback

I think it's just too expensive for the small amounts in the bottles.

  • shampoo and conditioner left me feeling like I came right out of the salon! a little bit goes a long way with these, which makes it worth the extra money. I love the lather the shampoo gives, and the conditioner has a great conditioner and makes my hair feel so light at the same time. i've also tried #0 and can't tell if it's done much for my hair.

    Feedback

#0 takes a while to saturate all of your hair with it so maybe the dispensing aspect of this product could be changed. additionally, I can't tell if it's done much for my hair. if the shampoo and conditioner had better ingredients (bad rating on the Yuka app), that would make me feel a lot better about using the product as well

  • These products are pricey but I like when they are used in the salon for deep conditioning. When used long term at home, I don’t see significant improvement in my hair.

    Feedback

These products do work well for many and I do like certain products in the line but I don’t think this works for me as a regular use product.

  • I have used a few of the OLAPLEX products, mainly the shampoo, the No5 conditioner and the bonding oil. I must say I was a little bit disappointed by the conditioner since it left my hair very heavy and oily (I washed it very well). Other than that, I love them.

    Feedback

The only improvement that they can do is try and reformulate the conditioner. It's really heavy.

  • I have the shampoo, conditioner and the bond smoother. The bond smoother has been an absolute game changer for me - has dramatically reduced drying time and helps control my frizz.

    Feedback

I like the shampoo and conditioner but I haven't seen any dramatic improvement in my hair since using it. Struggling to justify the price of it. I think the treatment products are more worth the investment!

  • Used the bond maintenance shampoo & conditioner once and my husband literally commented on how good my hair looked. Much more moisturized and reduced fly aways.

    Feedback

Instructions on how much product to use since it is "concentrated"

  • I have only used olaplex 3 and it does wonder to my hair. As it is curly this means that is naturally dry so I used it once per week and I have seen quite a difference.
