Diaspora Co. Reviews

4.8

Diaspora Co. earns emphatic reviews as a top-tier spice brand that demonstrably works, delivering intensely fresh, aromatic flavors—standouts include Pragati turmeric, Aranya black pepper, Guntur Sanaam chiles, chai masala, cumin, and cardamom—while drawing criticism for higher prices, stock inconsistency, and occasional subscription or fulfillment issues. Reviews praise the brand’s traceable sourcing, elegant packaging, and inspiring recipes, but note packaging quirks (clear glass, jar-size inconsistency), desire for more basic options and smaller sizes, and a few users feeling the flavors don’t always justify the hype.

  • These are without a doubt the best spices I've ever used. I've bought most of their spices at least once, most multiple times, and regret none of the purchases. The cumin is unbelievably fragrant and fresh. I'm obsessed with the cardamom and use it in all my naked goods. The chaat masala and taco masala can brighten any salad or roast veggies. Kashmiri chili powder goes onto every pizza I eat, although my true love is their dried whole chili peppers, which they sadly discontinued. The cacao powder is the best ever. Yes the prices are a little high, but the quality is truly there, and you're supporting sustainable, reusable farming. So much love for this company. And they have great recipes on their website.

  • Diaspora makes excellent, super quality spices, but their approach to brand, transparency, and the way they communicate with their customers is what I think people are really buying into when they make a purchase. I feel like Diaspora actually deserves the credit for shifting a lot of people's perspective on spices altogether-- I find myself eschewing grocery store spices that look like they've been gathering dust for a decade because... they probably have. The freshness makes a difference, and the supply chain makes a difference. I'm really glad they've expanded their assortment so much the last few years, and I'm particularly a fan of the Aranya pepper and the Pink Pahadi garlic.

  • Highly recommend - go to their website now!! I love the entire mission of Diaspora Co.! I recently tried the Chota Tingrai Black Tea and used it to make chai. Some of the best chai I've ever had. It's wonderful and it's great to know where it's sourced. It's slightly pricey for the amount you get, so this is will be a special occasion purchase of mine.

The products sell out really quick and there is a waiting period before they are restocked. If you really like a product, I suggest ordering an extra one and stocking up! The tea has been sold out for a while.

  • I haven’t tried all of Diaspora’s offerings, but the spices I have tried (turmeric, cumin, chai masala) are really incredible. Full-bodied and truly on another level compared to your typical grocery store spices. Where Diaspora really shines for me is its Aranya Pepper. Any other black pepper is ruined for me now! Fortunately, they offer a subscription so I can make sure I always have it in my pepper mill. Also, don’t sleep on their tote bag. It’s really fabulous.

Obviously this is part of the challenge of managing a global spice trade, but sometimes it can be a little confusing to shop with some items being in stock and others being pre-order only.
