I haven’t tried to cook with the butter yet since I rarely cook either simple proteins/veggies or egg dishes, but maybe I will in the future. Instead I used the butters to spread on bread with soft cheese like Camembert and Harrison and it was quite flavorful. Anchovy flavor would make a good sandwich spread.
The shallot butter is delicious and made my at-home chicken noodle soup recipe that much better! I take rotisserie chicken from the grocery store, sautee shallots, garlic, and onion in the butter, add the chicken quickly to crisp it up a bit, throw in some herbs and broth, and add the noodles at the last step. Delicious!
I tried two different versions: Garlic & Shallot (G&S) and Hot Honey (HH). The first had a solid hit of garlic, though I found the shallot flavor to be lacking, and the second had a nice, zesty zing. Like a previous reviewer, I had some issues with determining the best items on which to spread the butters. Other than using on bread or plain rice, when I tried other options the G&S version was easily overpowered by other flavors. The HH fared better, though I admit I didn't try blending it with nearly as many possibilities. While tasty, given the cost (pretty expensive for 3 oz.) and the ease of whipping up my own similar blends I think these are more of a treat than a day-to-day purchase.
Churn makes some really tasty flavored butters! I'm really low income and these were a bit of a splurge but I got them when they were on sale. I use olive oil to cook most of my food and I save these for toast! The garlic & shallot is especially amazing on sourdough toast!
