  • Bird Buddy was a kickstarter I invested in 2 years ago. It took some time to roll it out. But when it finally came, I was able to put it together download the app and start using it in no time. I did however have a few glitches along the way but the customer service helped me out right away and I’ve been glitch free ever since. I absolutely love this thing. The app is super easy and it puts the birds at your finger tips. Probably the best part of the device is the contact innovation of the designers. They are always asking for feedback and ACTUALLY change things based on our experiences. They are honest and up front about the fact that it is new for everyone including themselves so experience keeps getting better. It sounds odd to say it out loud like this but it’s true. The BB community on social is very welcoming and fun. People post there awesome bird photos, create artwork and make silly videos. It’s like a little club. I can’t say enough about this device. If you are skeptical based on review, I would ignore the initial roll out reviews and see how the reviews improved through the months. A true testament to the consumer and BB crew for staying with it. You gotta try this thing, it’s pretty incredible.

    The roll out could have been smoother but they caught up pretty quick. If you buy this product be sure to get the solar roof. I never charge it, it’s always good to go.

  • I’ve had my BirdBuddy for several months now. I love how it figures out the type of bird it is (or the occasional squirrel). I love the videos of my neighborhood friends. I hope they turn on the audio feature soon. I would love to hear the birds. I have had to unpair it once, but repaired easily and fixed the problem. I look forward to new visitors & the regulars too.

  • I was an early adopter, especially interested in the Camera and AI identification. I was overjoyed when I got my first pictures of Baltimore Orioles and Goldfinches. I knew we had them in the neighborhood, but never in my yard. I was also excited and entertained to see Purple Finches, which are rare in my area. The videos of the birds on the Bird Buddy feeder can be entertaining, as some birds are friendly, but some birds will scare off other birds with a surprising poke in the tail. I am happy I jumped on the Bird Buddy bandwagon.

    As a new product, execution has been good with some hiccups. The global COVID slowdown affected everyone, including Bird Buddy deliveries. Although my initial setup was not as frustrating as some of the reported experiences, I believe that a printed Quick Start pamphlet (similar to the online FAQ) would be very helpful in making initial setup a smoother experience. Not everyone was prepared for the early adopter experience, and Bird Buddy has made significant progress since initial release. Development staff listen to all suggestions, and try to implement practical ideas on a reasonable development timeline. Also, the Bird Buddy customer support staff have been very gracious in handling criticism and directed frustration from the users. The interface is cute, and intuitive, and Development has improved process times and efficiency. The AI Identification was 'not fully trained' in the beginning, which was expected. But, the ID capability has improved noticeably. In addition, given the global, international nature of the Bird Buddy network and identification results to date have been impressive. Based on decades of consumer experience... I am not normally an early adopter. But, based on equal experience with AI, interface design, and technology, I supported Bird Buddy with my eyes wide open, prepared for some problems. For the most part, I have been happy, and delighted with my experiences and hundreds of videos and photos from my Bird Buddy smart bird feeder.

  • I received My Bird Buddy as a gift from my children. They were one of the first people to order and back the production. Although it took almost a year to receive my gift, I have been over the top satisfied and wake up each morning eager to see who has visited. The pictures are great quality and I have had no problems with updates. The one glitch I had was easily solved by customer service within a couple days. I have the solar roof and haven’t had to charge my camera for a couple months. Thanks, BB!!! I am a big fan!!!

  • A wonderful gift that I have really enjoyed! If you like birding this brings them up close and personal. I have collected some marvelous photos of the local birds. Easy to use!

    I’m only giving a four due to some of the delays and slow customer service but I believe this has been improved to a very good level. I have Teo bird buddies - I get great photos and movies of birds and a few too many squirrels (not their fault)

  • Initially there were some time delays and app glitches. The pandemic really affected the company beyond their control but I'm so glad I stuck in there because it is so worth it!

    Such a clever app and product. Definitely glad I have my bird buddy and wouldn't be without it now. The way it IDs the birds and collates them in the app is fantastic. Tempted to get another one for the front garden as well!

  • Backed Birdbuddy on Kickstarter for my 10 year old who is bird obsessed. We’ve had our now for a few months and it turns out the whole family loves it and I shared some of our Bird Buddy visitor videos online and now my friends all want one. It’s truly a fun addition to our home and our bird lover absolutely loves it.

  • It was a slow start getting my Bird Buddy bc they have been slammed with so much early on. Waiting on my feeder seemed like an eternity, BUT, it was so worth the wait! This app brings me so much joy. Checking my feeder and seeing my visiting birds up close is the highlight of my day. Reception and clarity in the videos and postcards it takes of birds is exceptional. I also love that there is a community on FB where we can share ideas, pictures, and get questions answered. The unit itself needs recharging, so through the help of others, we were able to get a long outdoor power plug with usbc plugs and now I do not have to bring my unit in to charge. This has been a game changer. Within just a couple of months my feeder has recognized and logged in 18 different species. Occasionally one will be incorrectly identified, but it is usually because lighting is poor or the bird is not at an angle where it can clearly be identified. Most of the time, however, identification is dead on and if you are new to birding, your picture can be uploaded eith to a Bird Buddy expert or the community. They are great at helping identify a mystery bird. I'm looking forward to the upcoming updates with many user requests being fulfilled. They do listen, even send surveys and ask users what needs to be tweaked or improved and they literally do all they can to make positive changes. I know some have been frustrated with customer service, especially early on. They had a unique product and have been transparent, telling us that it was hard to keep up and roll enough out to meet demand. However, things are definitely changing. So many positive improvements. This is am amazing product and if you can get past the waiting, I can almost guarantee that you will agree it was worth the wait. Please know that you will need a strong wifi network to get great reception, we actually added a pod to extend our wireless internet and plugged it in close to the window where our feeder is located. Are there still glitches, yes, but Bird Buddy seems to be working tirelessly to fix them. The joy of birding brought up close has been awesome, and if I had to wait all over again for my feeder I'd hands down do it again.

  • It’s fair to say that I waited a long time for my Birdbuddy. I’ve seen lots of criticism about the delays encountered along the way, but as part of a Kickstarter project, it’s kind of a given that things might not run so smoothly. Perhaps I’m just more patient than most? Hand on heart though, my Birdbuddy arrived recently and the delay disappointment has been wiped out by the sheer brilliance of my amazing bird feeder. Now that the feeder is established in my garden, it’s a real buzz to get notifications on my phone. It’s a delight to check the app for postcards of my feathered visitors. The AI is working well and generally hits on the right bird. It’s definitely learning all the time! The quality of the videos and photos is astonishing - it’s amazing to be able to see these wild birds in such exquisite detail, and after a bit of time you start to see fascinating insights into bird behaviour and feeding habits. It’s an exciting addition to my garden for sure! After some initial teething issues, the Birdbuddy team are turning out to be great at communicating progress and plans. It’s refreshing to see a company hold their hands up to issues and see them actively working to put things right. They encourage feedback whether it’s good or bad and there’s always a hint of humour and enthusiasm in their updates that I find quite endearing. I’m excited to see what this company does next with Birdbuddy

    The delays were frustrating, but the company seems to have supply issues under control now. Some people find lots of notifications and postcard’s frustrating but personally I love getting them. You can keep or discard whatever the Birdbuddy delivers to you. I like that the company is interactive and is engaging with its Birdbuddy community to develop the feeder. I’m confident that any niggles are being worked out.

  • I pre-ordered with delivery by Christmas and received my Bird Buddy three days before Christmas as promised. It was very easy to add the solar panel and set up the WiFi and app. The picture and video quality is amazing! The bird identification is correct about 80% of the time and is getting better. The creators are very interactive with the BB community and are constantly reviewing suggestions to better the app, battery life, and more. It has been a wonderful experience and I highly suggest it any bird lover!

  • I absolutely LOVE my Bird Buddy and have had a number of friends order their own Bird Buddy based on my experience! - The photos are exceptional with amazing detail! - The videos are so fun to watch (though some are a bit too long which is being addressed in development). - The developers have been extremely attentive in addressing issues that are raised and communicate regularly to the users. For example, the battery life was an issue early on even with the solar panel. It was not uncommon to have to bring the camera in for a charge every 3-4 days. Through multiple firmware updates, I’m thrilled to say that I haven’t had to bring the camera in to charge since i installed the updates on February 5th! - The Bird Buddy community on social media is amazing. People provide assistance to one another and share the birds they’ve captured. I love seeing gorgeous birds from all over the world. I highly recommend this very cool product!

    If you are considering this product be sure to have a place to hang it that has a strong wifi signal and I definitely recommend buying the solar panel option!

  • I was an early Kickstarter backer, backing the product with the intent of gifting the Bird Buddy to my father. Yes, I waited well over a year to receive the product. While the Bird Buddy team received a lot of criticism during this period, some people actually accused the team of fraud (?!?), I felt the team communicated frequently and provide accurate (at the time) information. Once received (and the packaging was great), I have been very pleased with the product. I helped my father set up the Bird Buddy - which went very smoothly - and hang the feeder. It didn't take many days for birds to find the feeder and we began receiving postcards. I like the product so much, I then ordered my own Bird Buddy. Again, the setup was not hard. I've not had any of the issues some other users appear to have (firmware updates have always gone smoothly). The quality of the pictures is excellent. With every firmware update, battery life has improved (without a solar roof, my Bird Buddy currently lasts 3-5 days between charging). App functionality also continues to improve with every new release. I am very pleased with the product and I am confident it will continue to improve.

  • Huge improvements since 6 mos. Ago when I received my Bird Buddy. They’ve been working hard to improve battery life which was my biggest problem. I really enjoy seeing the new postcards when I’m notified.

  • The Bird Buddy has quite literally made me a happier person. It has exceeded my hopes and expectations in regard to the amount and quality of bird photos I receive, and I squeal a little bit every time I get a notification of a new bird/pic arrival. This is definitely and by far one of my favorite purchases ever. I was never much interested in birds prior to buying this, and didn’t know anything about them, but I’ve since become a quasi-expert on identification, and I have a whole new view on and appreciation for birds and their role in our ecosystem. I highly recommend this product, as long as you have a location for it where it will have a decent Wi-Fi signal, and very preferably where it can be mounted on a pole with a baffle or other setup where it is not accessible by squirrels.

  • While the cost of the product a bit high in my opinion, you are essentially buying a luxury product. The camera module has been great in my opinion and the bird feeder itself is nice. I do think there are future updates to be made in the future once things get moving. Looking at products that have been on the market a long time, the first rendition is not usually the best. This is a great starting point for a future of amazing products!

    While the initial launch of Bird Buddy was a bit awkward, they did their best. It was a pandemic, and it was a CROWD SOURCED PROJECT. People do not seem to understand the process and workflow involved with a crowd sources project. Did it take way longer to get then expected? Yes. Did the bird buddy group keep customers updated with an honest dialogue the whole time? Yes. In that sense they did an awesome job in my opinion. They have continued to be transparent and actually listen to their customer base for improvements. This is a group of people who made a product and continue to improve on it on a monthly basis. Kudos to the team!

  • I was an early Kickstarter backer in May 2020. I loved the idea of being able to remotely photograph my backyard birds and have help and identifying them. I received it in October of 2022 and it has performed flawlessly since receiving it. It was well worth the wait. I have many photos and now videos of birds that I didn't even know existed in my backyard. The company has been extremely helpful in working with any problems. I haven't had any but I've noticed others have and they have performed almost perfectly throughout the process. The community that has formed on the official Facebook page for the company is incredible. We are able to share ideas on how to make our backyard feeder more efficient. How to set it up and enjoy the different birds from all over the world. I love the idea behind the bird conservancy of the creators of the bird buddy and I enjoy being a part of the testing and the development of the feeder in my area. I feel like it's an honor to be a part of the bird buddy team. I'm looking forward to more exciting ideas. They're coming up with the hummingbird feeder, the woodpecker feeder, the bird bath, what they're calling, a backyard oasis. This is a great product. I wish I could give it 100 stars.

    At this point I don't think there is anything that the company could do better. They have had so many obstacles, from a worldwide pandemic, supply chain issues and logistical problems with delivery to Europe and other countries being delayed. I feel they went above and beyond to fix any issues encountered. The customer service has vastly improved and you can get help if needed through their Facebook group or email. It might have helped having a phone help line and maybe they will in the future.
