  • While the wait was longer than expected for this Kickstarter that happened in the depths f covid, I absolutely love my Bird Buddy feeder. It arrived packaged well and has worked as expected since arrival. Any issues have been solved with the assistance of other Bird Buddy users and the company itself. The company has been overwhelmed but I feel like their intentions have the the best and they truly want bird Buddy users to be happy. I appreciate the regular updates and improvements. I’m looking forward to expanding my collection with the hummingbird feeder and the bird bath.

    Although there were many delays, between covid and the usual hiccups with start ups, I don’t feel like it was that much worse than other kickstarters I have supported. Ultimately, I think the Bird buddy has been worth the wait.

    This is literally one of the best items I have ever purchased! The photo quality is so detailed and rich . . . it has been amazing to experience and share the images! I am extremely impressed with the significant ongoing enhancements and upgrades.

  • I was one of the first backers when the bird buddy was on kickstarter. I have had zero issues with it and have a lot of fun watching birds with my family. People at work are always asking me about it and love to see the pictures. I would 100% recommend this product if you are on the fence about buying it. I will be purchasing the new hummingbird feeder as soon as it is released!

  • I have been thrilled with my Bird Buddy since day 1. It took awhile for the birds to find it (maybe a week), but I've had postcards every day for the last 5 months. I had no problems setting it up, and filling it is quick and easy. The community of birders offers great suggestions and this bird feeder is an absolutely wonderful product. I've bought it for family members also.

    The biggest piece of advice is patience once setting it up. It does take awhile. Also, place it in a sunny location so you get better pictures from the Bird Buddy.

  • I absolutely LOVE my Bird Buddy! The best thing about it is the quality of the camera - it is top-notch. Not every photo will be frame-worthy, but occasionally I get bird photos that simply knock my socks off! And the rest of the time it's just fun to see the videos of the birds and their antics. I was never a big birder before Bird Buddy, but my bird identification skills have increased dramatically thanks to this device! The other benefit I adore is being able to see birds from all over the world via the community pages and the data aggregation by Bird Buddy. Great product, great design, great fun!!

    Their team is proactive and responsive, now that they have staffed up. They had a bit of a rough go at first, because product demand outstripped their ability to support it.

  • I'm sooo in love with my Bird Buddy! And I'm not only talking about the product but the company and the team as well. They keep making my Bird Buddy better and better every month and I can't wait to see what the next update brings!! They also clearly care about birds and biodiversity. Their community is amazing and the best part of my morning now is waking up to see what beautiful photos other people have captured from all over the world while I was a sleep. Keep doing what you're doing Bird Buddy and I'm sure you'll turn even the most disappointed people into fans eventually!

    Most of my early grievances have been addressed through updates and the few remaining things that I don't love about the experience are on the roadmap so I can't really say anything but keep doing what you're doing. I love you!

  • Usually i would say its a nice product but its totally useless cause at least my device is not recording postcards anymore. I just received 4 postcards during the last two months. But there were so many birds visiting the feeder. The customer support just sends standard mails wich don’t really help. The are not interested in finding solutions and don’t allow to send in the device for a hardware check up or replacement. The app design looked nice at the beginning but to many clicks to delete or accept postcards. Better safe your money and spend it for better products.

  • I received a Bird Buddy from my daughter this past Christmas. A couple of weeks later I got around to setting it up and after three days the squirrels had eaten through the plastic faceplate. Not the fault of Bird Buddy, it was the squirrels. So I emailed Bird Buddy to see if I can get/ purchase a new plastic faceplate. They said the do not sell them. So now I have a $200 useless bird feeder with a camera and app. WTF! All I want to do is buy the plastic piece for the front and they will not sell me one. Do you think I’m going to buy another one of your bird feeders? Do you think that I will recommend your company or product? You have a great idea and I was excited to get the Bird Buddy. I don’t blame you for what the squirrels did, but I do blame you for not working with me to fix it so I can enjoy the Bird Buddy. There are other words I’d like to add to this but they all have four letters. So I won’t. I am very disappointed in your lack of interest to help me enjoy your product.

    Sell me a new plastic faceplate.

  • Worked perfectly until Deep Sleep Mode, now I have to do a Factory Reset every day after it wakes up to get it to go back online. Bird Buddy is too stubborn to admit that the Deep Sleep Mode was a bad idea so now I have a camera that cannot take photos or live stream without being factory reset every single day.

  • received, doesn't work, unit won't charge. Customer service nonexistent, can't return for a refund. Ultimate run around. Piece of Slovenian junk, not even worthy of a landfill.

  • I'm having a really good time with my Bird Buddy so far... But I think the company really needs to figure out how to set expectations better and fix their support so that everyone can share in that sentiment. It's really sad to see some people getting stuck and not getting help quickly. It's such a wonderful product and it clearly works great for most people. Just look at all the posts here... social.mybirdbuddy.com, and you'll see what I mean. Yes the battery charge wont last more than 3-4 days, but you have to refill the feeder any way so it's not really a big inconvenience. Even then, this has been improving with each new release they put out so I'm expecting that to just keep getting better. Overall I really love both the feeder and the app. I could list all the things that I think could be done differently but they're mostly really minor or a thing of taste. The thing I'd like to see changed the most, for example, is the design of the app. I know what they were going for but it's not for me. This thing is for adults, not kids. But, as I said, these are minor gripes. The photos are really amazing and I'm always excited when I get a notification from Bird Buddy.

  • I first wrote a very negative review but had to come back and change it. After waiting a couple of weeks the company finally did respond and I was able to return my camera (that would not charge). They apologized and admitted that the popularity of Bird Buddy and Covid restrictions in China for 2 years put them behind. They were transparent and admitted that some of the early preorder cameras had this issue and not only did they replace the camera, but the entire housing, as well! Admittedly , the almost 3 week wait after I sent it back was hard, but once it did get here, I have nothing but praises for it. I absolutely LOVE this thing, bordering on a addiction watching footage and seeing photos of my birds close up. The camera is clear as a bell, and it identifies the birds accurately most of the time. I've even added a few accessories. If you asked me now I would give them a 5 star plus, but bc of the delay in response, I'm leaving it at 4 stars. We have our unit plugged in to an outlet, so we don't have to bring it in to recharge it. It truly now is a great gift that my daughters gave me, and I tell you now, it was so worth the wait. I would strongly recommend you check out the Bird Buddy community group on FB. It has actual owners posting their bird picts from all over the world. There is honest chat on this site and a great way to learn new tips and tricks from other users.

  • (uploading here tanked the quality of my blue jay photo, but it is crystal clear!) Love my Bird Buddy💕 I got the version with the solar panel and it's been working great to keep it charged. I only had to take the camera module out for a charge once during 3 days of unrelenting clouds. Once the local birds felt the need for seed it's been exciting to wake up each day to a bunch of birdy postcards. So far I've had 6 unique birds (the app says "bird unlocked" haha) and the photos are incredible. SO clear. I have a cardinal couple that visits and it's great to be able to see the feather patterns so well that I can be sure it's the same two. Also the app is very cute!! There's frequent updates, and this morning I received video postcards for the first time.

    Even with shipping delays, it was still only around 2 years wait for start to finish on a brand new tech product. And it was during a time when there were big supply chain problems. I also manufacture (non-tech) products so I know how it goes. I don't feel that was an unreasonable wait at all, and the feeder and app are just the best!

  • There was so much anticipation for this thing that it really had no right to live up to the hype. After a long time waiting, they finally started shipping to Europe. A few months ago I gave up on ever getting it honestly. Now that I have it, I really can't say much bad about it. Even the delay getting it seems to have worked in my favor. I've been following the discussion on their social channels for the past few months and the initial rollout was rocky but they seem to have addressed most of the commonly reported issues until now. My experience has been overall very good so they must be doing something right. I can confirm that the photos really are amazing and the build quality good to great. I can't really speak to longevity or durability yet since I've only had it for a little over a week now. Battery is ok. Not great, but good enough. 7-8 days with solar roof addon during the winter. The app is lovely. They've clearly put a lot of effort into it. With all of the improvements they made in the past few months I would only expect this to get better and better so I can honestly recommend Bird Buddy to anyone that wants to see birds up close.

    Manage expectations better, I give you 4/5 just because of all the confusion around shipping dates to different regions. Us Europeans felt like 2nd class citizens for the past few months and that wasn't great.

  • I received Bird Buddy as an early Christmas gift last week and have been having a wonderful time time with it! I was concerned at first that our home wifi would not be strong enough in our backyard but was pleasantly surprised when that was not the case. Kept it outside in heavy rain and low temperatures and kept getting many postcards from the hungry neighborhood birds just fine. It's so amazing to see them up close. You can pretty much read the markings from the ringed birds, which is kind of crazy if you ask me. Look at the attached photo. The camera truly is a gem on this one as the photos often come out crisp and detailed. The battery charge lasts 3-4 days and I think that's fair enough with all the content that I get each day. Thinking of buying the solar roof too as I've heard many people in the bird buddy Facebook group claim 10+ days on a single charge using that. Very happy with Bird Buddy so far!

  • I love my Bird Buddy! I waited nearly a year for it and was extremely excited for its arrivals a month or so ago. I look forward to my bird postcards every day! The quality of the photos is great, I was pleasantly surprised by how good they look. The Bird Buddy itself is aesthetically pleasing and looks very nice in our yard. A few minor negatives: 1. The battery life of the camera is short, though it does seem to be getting better with software updates (lasts 3-4 days now) 2. The bird buddy needs to be in a well lit area for the camera to accurately identify the birds, so needless to say, the accuracy gets worse as the sun sets. I’m going to try a mounted light near the feeder to see if that helps. Overall, very happy with my purchase! I tell all of my friends about my bird buddy!

  • My review is based solely on the product in-hand. I was late to this, so I don’t have long wait time story to tell. I received mine recently and so far it’s been great! Set up and necessary updates have been easy. The picture quality is amazing. It’s been fascinating to get such an up-close look into the bird world without disturbing them. Wonderful gift for any bird lover.

    I really love my Bird Buddy. The app could use some tweaking to make it a little more streamlined but it’s clear they are working on it as there have already been some improvements in the short time I’ve been using it. I believe it will continue to get better and more intuitive as they grow.
