Reviews mention

  • Crisp camera imagery
  • Engaging video postcards
  • Refined physical design
  • Helpful species identification
  • Short battery longevity
  • Cumbersome app navigation
  • Finicky network pairing
  • Awkward perch ergonomics

Bird Buddy delights many reviewers with crisp photos, engaging video “postcards,” and an elegant, well-designed feeder-camera system that helps identify species and brings backyard birdlife up close. Reviews also flag persistent weaknesses: short battery life without the Solar Roof, finicky setup and pairing (especially with some mesh networks), clunky app flows, sporadic missed captures, and inconsistent or slow support; when it works, it’s magical, but reliability and ergonomics vary widely.

  • I love my Bird Buddy. Makes me smile every day!

  • I bought this for my dad for his birthday he has been so excited, he shows me all the birds they've come every time I come over. Completely worth my money

  • Was difficult to connect to wifi, etc but well worth the effort! Was the perfect gift for my bird-loving dad.

  • I purchased Bird Buddy for my husband and we both REALLY enjoy it. The camera is very good and the app does a great job of identifying and organizing the photos / videos. We actually learned that a much more diverse array of birds, than we were aware of, come to our feeder. It is a fun way to birdwatch up close.

  • This feeder is awesome. Great pictures, easy to set up, and free picture storage!

  • Love my Bird Buddy! Being able to see birds up close, with all their detail is fantastic! Bird Buddy has brought me much joy and peacefulness.

  • Mixed review for this item. It took 6 months to receive, was fairly easy to set up, and had few to no photos the first few months. Did the update and commented on FB about the lack of postcards and they did start to appear more often. Not a lot of variety in visitors even though I have mixed the food to include suet, sunflowers, peanuts, mealworms, you name it. For the price, I don't feel I can recommend it to a friend at this point.

  • Fantastic device, even better customer service. We got this as a Christmas gift, and honestly, it was the best thing anyone has ever purchased for my family. It takes a while to get birds, but the pictures are fantastic and such a fun surprise. I am excited that sound has been turned on for videos so we can hear the birds yell at us when the feeder is empty. The cons are a few, but could be a dealbreaker for some: you need to have a good internet connection outside for this to work. This may entail getting a 2.4GHz outdoor wifi repeater like we had to do. Also, the AI sometimes feels like it is getting less smart as you get more photos. As they work with it, you get less postcards but more birds come to visit with no postcards sent to you. It can be frustrating. One day my feeder completely drained my battery “taking postcards” (with a solar roof on a sunny day) but I got nothing sent to me. It can be sad to see a bird perch on it and not get a photo. I know that as time goes on, this company is fixing software glitches like this and my hope is that eventually we will get less discards by the AI. As for customer service, it was fantastic. We had to replace our module because it was stuck sleeping. They traded it in after determining that we did everything we could software wise. It was easy, free, and pretty smooth. I am hopeful that a few of their software quirks will be fixed with future updates, and I am confidant that they will be based on past experiences. They listen to their users and that is pretty amazing.

  • I absolutely love my Bird Buddy. By far the brst present I have bought for myself

  • I was an early backer in the kickstarter funding. I love this. I enjoy the close up pics and the AI learns fast. Sure it is not perfect, but the team takes time to learn what we need and put it in updates as they are able.

  • Is a great idea, with cero performance. The battery is useless, does not last more than 2 or 3 days. Then I bought the solar panel, let me say is an additional waste of money. The app is cumbersome and difficult to navigate. I will not recommend, there are cheaper and better alternatives.

  • Birdbuddy is not honoring there Full Back Money Guarantee. I have returned there product within 2weeks of having it an now zero communication on my refund! So after a long wait I am finally able to say bird buddy Did give me my Full Refund!

  • Disappointed!! I waited months to receive my Bird Buddy, and was excited to finally get it set up. However, no such luck! When I opened the box, it was missing the universal mounting pole, and the wire hanger is lopsided/not symmetrical, so I can’t use it to hang my feeder. Even worse, I have not been able to get the camera to work. I went through the process of pairing my camera, and made it all the way through the firmware update, but then received an error message. I have continued receiving error messages with each attempt since. I am currently waiting on a response/assistance from Customer Support, which I have been advised via email, may take up to 7 days.

  • I don’t think that Bird Buddy is ready for prime time. I had no problems setting it up, but after only (5) days, it stopped working. When it went offline, it had a 97% charge, so it didn’t run out of battery. It doesn’t respond when plugged into the charger, and no led lights show anymore. Apparently it is not uncommon for it to just stop working all together. I had to wait many months to get my Bird Buddy, so I assume they are having manufacturing problems. In addition, there is no live tech support. I’ve read that one has to wait several weeks for them to respond to support requests. Further, I did not get a wire hanger in my kit. My impression is that the Bird Buddy company is in over its head; it can’t keep up with manufacturing demand, their product is failing at a very high rate, and they don’t have the staff to keep up with support requests. I spent a few hundred dollars on my Bird Buddy with the solar roof, and I’m having serious doubts that they will be able to get me a working product.

  • Camera never worked. Called Birdbuddy many times and they never responded. This company isn’t trustworthy. $200 down the toilet…for the birds!

  • So far not good. The instructions are terrible, a part is missing, and, worst of all, there is no LED light on my camera module. There is no way to tell when it is charged, on, or anything.

  • I recently purchased the Bird Buddy smart bird feeder and I must say it has exceeded all my expectations. As a passionate bird lover, this device has brought an entirely new level of joy and excitement to my birdwatching experience. The setup process was a breeze. All I had to do was attach the feeder to my window and connect it to the mobile app. The app is user-friendly and intuitive, allowing me to easily customize settings and preferences. I was able to choose the type of food to dispense, set feeding schedules, and even adjust the camera angle for optimal bird photography. One of the standout features of Bird Buddy is its ability to capture stunning photos of the birds that visit the feeder. The high-resolution camera provides crisp and clear images, allowing me to document and identify various bird species. I love receiving real-time notifications whenever a new visitor arrives, making it a delightful surprise every time. The app also provides interesting facts and information about the birds, which I find incredibly educational. The overall build quality of the feeder is excellent. It is sturdy, weather-resistant, and easy to clean. The design is sleek and blends seamlessly with my home decor. The feeder's capacity is generous enough to accommodate multiple birds, ensuring that I have a steady stream of visitors throughout the day. I can confidently say that the Bird Buddy has enhanced my birdwatching hobby in ways I never imagined. It brings me closer to nature and provides a deeper understanding and appreciation for our feathered friends. If you're a bird enthusiast looking to elevate your birdwatching experience, I highly recommend investing in the Bird Buddy smart bird feeder.

  • I have read the reviews from 4-6 months ago saying that the company just need to get it's act together on the product itself and their product support, However, nothing has changed in the meantime! The camera does not charge and so it does not turn on. There is nothing that can be done with it because there is no way to get any product support. You get a message saying that they are busy. Do not purchase is my advice!

  • Purchased the product as a birthday present. It then took 5 months to arrive. Once I got it set up only squirrels visited and I came out the second day it was set up to find the camera until pulled out of the feeder and the cable that attaches to the solar roof chewed by squirrels. Reached out to customer support and was told the damage wasn’t covered under warranty. Reading through the warranty it seems that nothing is covered in the warranty. Why even say you have a warranty if it doesn’t cover anything! I remember seeing advertising that indicated it couldn’t be damaged by squirrels. Overall they seem like a start up that has no clue how to provide customer service or a quality product.

Great idea but execution just isn’t there. If they had better customer service and stood behind their product I would be more inclined to offer a better review. Simply provide a replacement cord or solar panel for my issue and it wouldn’t have resulted in a poor review.

  • So far I hate this thing. It is not at all intuitive and the instructions are useless. There were no instructions included in the box and what is available online misses so many steps, it has been impossible to set up, I really wanted to like this and can't return it because it was a gift. I'm stuck with a useless piece of plastic

Have the instructions detailed and written by someone who's first language was English. Include in the instructions arrows to the specific parts that are required to be manipulated in order to set this thing up.
