For its category, low carb sweets, it’s not absolutely bad. Otherwise I prefer 80% dark chocolate with nut pieces or cocoa nips in it. It does not satisfy me and makes me want more just straight chocolate or natural peanut butter or just no sweets at all. Individual packaging can be helpful with portion control.

I had a terrible experience with the Whims Oat Milk Chocolate Caramel Cookie Bar. The bars were so hard I nearly broke a tooth trying to bite into one, and the “caramel” was so sticky it glued itself to my teeth. I had to spit it out - honestly the worst dessert I’ve ever had. I understand that isomalto-oligosaccharides (IMO) is the main sweetener in this product, and it’s hard to replicate caramel with that but the way it’s used here makes the product simply not edible. On top of that, the photo on the packaging is completely deceptive - it shows a soft, gooey caramel center, when in reality it’s a rock-hard, sticky block.

I was standing in line at the grocery store when the bright packaging caught my eye. Then I saw that, despite my dairy-free, gluten-free limitations, I could enjoy it too—and so I did. I may have opened it in the checkout line (don’t judge). There’s so much to love about this bar, but there’s also one thing I didn’t. First, the mission is fantastic—low sugar, dairy-free, gluten-free, and no sugar alcohols or palm oil. That’s no small feat. Go, Whims! The caramel and cookie crunch combination is fantastic. My only issue? The sweetness. And let me clarify—it could very well be me. I found it just a bit too sweet. I really wish I could try the other two flavors—the peanut butter cups and the peanut butter nougat bar—but my son is allergic to peanuts, so we don’t have them in the house. People seem to love those two flavors the most. Overall, I say give them a try. There’s so much to love, not to mention the amazing packaging and super cute name!

Despite being a huge hater of peanut butter, the one peanut butter thing I’ve been able to get behind are peanut butter cups. I have always figured it was because the peanut butter didn’t really taste like actual peanut butter. But even with brands that make less processed pb cubs, I’ve still enjoyed them quite a bit. Whims is another attempt at making a healthier peanut butter cups, with this brand using oat milk instead of dairy. I’ve had a few and I really enjoy them! They aren’t as sweet as other brands but I’m sure that was slightly intentional. These cups are firm on the outside but smooth and buttery on the inside. The only change I would want is to see a version of the product made with other nut butters such as cashew butter. There is a lot of opportunity here and I can’t wait to see what this brand comes up with next!
I've been mostly sugar-free for over a dozen years or so and it has been tricky to find treats that don't use tons of sugar alcohols or have a weird after taste. These have blown all of the other contenders out of the water and are now my official nightly "after dinner" treat! I love the creaminess of the peanut butter cup and really appreciate that these are plant based and gluten-free.
