West Elm earns mixed-to-polarized reviews: the brand delivers stylish, mid‑century‑leaning designs that many say hold up well—think Henry Sleeper Sofa, streamline coffee tables, and durable dining sets—but quality is inconsistent and larger furniture can pill, sag, chip, or shed. Reviews also flag chronic delivery delays, damaged or missing parts, and unhelpful customer service, while smaller home goods and decor are more reliably satisfying.

West Elm has beautiful designs, including a small cocktail table and decorative object of a pomegranate that I love. However, shipping times, in store stock options, and customer service can be difficult. That said, my little pomegranate is very cute and was packaged very carefully!

I wish my item has shipped a bit more quickly, and I wish they had more basics in stock in the store (ie towels, objects, linens).
West Elm is a solid purveyor of mid century furniture that is durable and stylish and that sits in the middle ground for pricing (not IKEA, not Restoration Hardware). Our living room set (coffee table and matching TV console) have worked in practically every space we've been in and have survived unscathed across moves to 3 different cities. The coffee table is also highly functional - the top pulls out into a TV dinner stand. Would definitely recommend.
One of my favorite places to get furniture from! So aesthetically pleasing and good quality.

A little expensive but overall love the products!!!
West Elm is THE place for high quality modern home furnishing. A lot of the rugs and furniture in my house are from West Elm and it has lasted for many years. The only con is that sometimes it can take months for shipping which has it's pros and cons. They also offer free interior design services which I've taken advantage of.

Love the free design services and all around customer service.

Really consistently stylish, functional, mostly high quality pieces that look great in many types of homes! When I don't know where to look, I check here first.

Reverse image search does sometimes show that the products can be found elsewhere, cheaper, yet are identical.
Overall, I'm fairly happy with my purchases from West Elm. I've purchased a plug-in sconce that after 2+ years still works great and has a timeless design. I also purchased a mid-sized rug that generally has held up against heavy foot traffic (though there is some pilling, which for the price, I'd expect slightly better quality). Then I've additionally purchased smaller home goods - which tend to be the best quality/price.

Quality consistency and better pricing
Nice products, and the quality is pretty good, however the prices are very high.

I love West Elm for their assortment of home goods available. Their designs are often incredible and aesthetic. The quality of the products I have is good, but not great - I have a West Elm bedside table which has a coating on it that is starting to peel and my marble desk as tiny cracks throughout (I understand this may be an imperfection in the marble itself). At the price point, I expected better quality. In saying this however, I do recommend the brand as the product designs are on point.

Quality could be improved to last the long haul.

I ordered a piece of furniture in July of this year, and they took full payment and gave me a delivery date in October. This is November and that date has been pushed several times. Now it is February, and they are unsure if it will arrive in February. They have someone following up on this, who provides no definite answers. Everything is vague and absolutely no responsibility is shown from the person who took the order or the one following up with you. Never order from this place again. This is a scam.

Customer Service couldnt find our order but return label was sent. Now the agent only sends 1 label for 1 ordered item. But if this order had 8 boxes then it requires to have 8 individual shipping labels and 8 return labels to be inserted inside even unopened boxes. Every incorrect piece that shipped, requires each individual shipping label and a label to be placed inside even the unopened box. Finally, cusyomer has to load all these pieces to be dropped off to a UPS drop off location. All of this means a customer has to open each box and place label on each box and then dropped off to an UPS location. Who pays for customers time and energy when West Elm sends an incorrect item?. When items deleivered they shipping company simply dropped off the items in our garage despite us having white glove service. So now this requires that we customers call customer service explain the situation and were on the phone for 2 hours to rectify the situation. Extremely poor poor process causing huge inconvenience to the customer. Engage a consulting firm to make the process easier for the end user.

Do Not Waste Your Money in West Elm
My husband and I recently purchased the Melbourne Leather Sofa Sectional from West Elm online in March for around $9,000. The sofa was fine the first month or two we had it and used it occasionally to watch tv, however then we started to notice the cushions starting to sag and the frame start to bend and warp, so uncomfortable its leaving our backs in pain after sitting down for 10 minutes! I contacted Customer service and they quickly tried to push me off to call the Allstate Protection Plan with whom I purchased the protection plan, basically was hung up on from a West Elm Manager. West Elm informed me there is no warranty and basically we won't help you your just stuck with the sofa go call Allstate. I thought at the time it was a smart idea to purchase the protection plan for another $590, which was a waste of money!!! They informed me I was not within the Timeframe to report the issue, which I have called numerous times to Allstate to understand why they denied my claim with no explanation!!! I cant get in touch with any representative at Allstate and they informed me I can not open another claim for the reason I listed which was that the structural integrity of sofa. They just do not want to pay$$ and they do not want to give me a reason . West Elm offered NO help or customer service and the protection plan from Allstate is a SCAM!!!! Buyer Beware!! I would not make another purchase in West Elm ever, worst company to deal with also they make you pay top $ for crap furniture that is not structural sound and so uncomfortable. I have also went to the Scarsdale location and tried all of the sofas on the floor all of them were so uncomfortable, crap company with crap furniture.

The worst customer service ever. Product delivery delayed by 5 months. Now it is sitting in a warehouse here and I have to wait another four weeks for delivery. I’ve waited so long that I wanted to return the part order I received in July but they won’t refund the whole amount. The delivery company AMJ will not return phone calls and customer said that it was not part of their job - they could only say I’m sorry. I was really didn’t think a well known company could behave that badly. I am tempted to picket in front of their stores🥴

I like the look from West Elm. It’s clean and simple. I mostly love their home accessories and price points.

Really bad experience with this store/brand! I purchased a bed and they changed the delivery date 3 times. After waiting for 4 months and after calling customer service several times they found out the product somehow got lost. They didn’t want to refund my money and they wanted me to wait 4 more months for a replacement. Very poor management and customer service will never by that line of poderes barn again, plus the quality is not good. I didn’t receive any compensation after all this time and issue.

I have purchased a few items from West Elm, with bedding being the most recent. I was disappointed with the quality of the bedding, as it pilled within a few months of purchase. I like their styles, but would not repurchase bedding from West Elm.

West elm furniture is designed to look nice, cost too much (for what it is) and require replacement within a few years. I have been fooled by their seemingly nice style too many times (on me) and am always left disappointed when purchases literally fall apart 1-2 years (or even months) after buying. From rugs, to beds/bedding to furniture - the quality is just not there. Aside from poor quality, the customer service atrocious. There is no path to repairing products and they will never replace items after 30 days. The poor quality is by design. If you like their style and have money to burn, go for it, but there are is much better quality alternatives that may be a bit pricier but offer significantly more value.

West Elm can be great for picking up home accessories or small decor to give a space some personality while staying within current mainstream trends. However, I am hesitant to continue purchasing furniture or more expensive 'premium' products because I don't trust that their quality aligns with their price point. We had a dining table delivered that didn't quite match the sample swatch, and after a few weeks the finish started coming off with just normal cleaning. A dining table needs to be wiped down frequently, so I do not believe this was consumer error. To West Elm's credit, they did offer to replace immediately or refund the table. We opted to replace (shipping wait times everywhere are out of control and we didn't want to go months without a table). The new table also did not look like the original swatch, so I lost a little bit of faith in their swatch quality, too. The table is heavy and I made sure to purchase one that was real wood. The top is smooth, but I've received a couple of nasty splinters from accidentally running my hand along the underside of the table. If you have the money and consider West Elm a 'normal' place to buy furniture, I'd recommend spending a little more and looking elsewhere for quality craftsmanship and pieces that will be able to last. If West Elm is a splurge and you like the styles, I'd recommend really analyzing the product details to make sure you are purchasing real wood, natural fibers, or other quality materials that will have a better chance of standing the test of time.

West elm customer service is HORRIFIC. Someone named Tina and her incompetent supervisor Mary were NO help in exchanged a rug I ordered for $1,000 that is falling apart. There ridiculous responses in blaming me for vacuuming the rug was outrageous. Stay FAR away from West Elm if you want low grade quality for a high price.

In my 53 years, I have never had an experience with a company this bad. At every turn we were told no, told, we can't do that for you, we can't change the order, we can't deliver on your requested day, and we can't return the product or cancel the order. At every turn West Elm violated our customer experience, and we were purchasing a very high-end rug which cost thousands of dollars. They failed in every way they could have during the entire process. We will "never" do business in this store again, which is very sad as we really wanted to like them, and we rather enjoy their retail locations. They are really nice to look at... but I wouldn't do business with them again. This will bleed over into their other brands as well. I will second guess doing business with all their stores going forward.

No, I do not recommend, awful products quality, awful customer support. I am very frustrated with the quality of their products. I ordered the rugs from them more than a year ago. Two expensive rugs called “hand loomed shine rugs". It is written in description of these rugs that shedding is expected for 3-6 months and then will diminish. I vacuum it 2 times a week as recommended (different directions, very thoroughly etc) for more than a year already. However, the shedding hasn't been diminished. At all. It sheds the same level as it was shedding a year ago when we bought it. No improvements at all. It sheds like crazy. These 2 rugs are in my daughters room. She even depeloped the severe allergy because of these rugs that shed contstantly. I owned many wool rugs in my life and I know that shedding is expected, but none of then shed as those ones. How comes that Westelm sells such low quality products. Seems they do not have quality control department at all. Even Ikea products (that are much cheaper) are of much better quality. How comes that they declare on the website that the shedding will diminish, but it never does. They publish fake information on their website. It is also impossible to leave reviews on products on their website to let other people know about low quality and disrespect. I understand now why they do not have reviews option: their products are of such a low quality, so that they do not want people to share their experience. The only thing I can do now is to throw these rugs to trash and thus throw almost 2000$ to trash that I spent on these expensive rugs. I contacted them several times regarding this issue, they said that they will forward this information to their management and they will contact me. They never contacted me back, 2 months passed.
