We’re Not Really Strangers earns strong reviews for catalyzing meaningful, vulnerable conversations that deepen relationships across friends, partners, and family, proving the brand’s core game concept works. Reviewers praise the thoughtful prompts, elegant red-and-white design, and versatile editions (Couples, Self-Reflection, Family), while noting downsides like limited replay with the same group, discomfort with the wrong audience, occasional “cringe” or mismatched prompts, and inconsistent merch/build quality.

This is a different kind of card game. It’s deep, it’s emotional, and if you play it right it’s bound to lead you to tears. Great play with someone you want to get closer with or someone you’ve known for a while too.

I don’t have any negative commentary, I think it’s a very unique game and I’ll definitely be playing it with more people.

You can feel the intention and care put into this game throughout all of the questions, branding and products. It has thought provoking questions that not only help deepen relationships, but can help you find a deeper understanding of yourself each time you are prompted with a new question and relationship. I also love the added touch of writing a personalize note for each other as a parting gift of the game.

Hope they keep creating additional packs!

I think in order to play this game you need to be emotionally prepared and comfortable with the people you are with, otherwise you just end up with an awkward conversation and game with people you don't know well enough to feel comfortable answering the questions with. However, if you are with a group of people you're comfortable with then you can learn more about each other and grow in friendship in a way that is hard to come by in daily life.

A better disclaimer.

This game is a great icebreaker to get to know new people or to go deeper with friends you already know. I love how intentional the questions are to pull out the gold in other people and hear more about their stories.

Great game to play with old friends, new or anything in between! This game promotes empathy, deep thinking and silliness too.

It was a game i have wanted since 2020 and finally i took my time and ended up ordering. it took almost a month for the game to arrive and it was tracked by route. the wait was understandable honestly and it was packed so beautiful. the game has allowed to create so many meaningful conversations with my partner. its amazing!

It’s an easy way to break down personal barriers. Best to break out after a glass or two of wine—can make small dinner parties very bonding.

Possibly more cards in the deck, and the ability to sort by range of desired intensity

I invested in this activity after some communication/transparency obstacles with my partner. Neither of us are strong communicators and both of us are uncomfortable discussing emotions. We casually read some of these cards one night and although they can prompt some interesting conversations that we wouldn’t have gotten to otherwise, we both found a lot of the cards a bit cringe-worthy. If you can get past how silly it feels to sit down and decide that you’re clocking into your expressive or vulnerable side then maybe this is for you, but for us we couldn’t take it very seriously. All that said maybe we’re simply asking too much of this game after expecting it to solve our deep rooted communication issues LOL! So many other people in my life thought this game was great but for us we found it a bit silly.
