Tony's Chocolonely

4.6

Tony’s Chocolonely earns strong reviews for rich, creamy chocolate and inventive flavors like Milk Caramel Sea Salt, Pretzel Toffee, and White Raspberry Popping Candy, while its fair-trade, anti-slavery mission resonates. Reviews also flag drawbacks: bars are very thick with irregular break lines that are hard to portion, some dark varieties run too sweet or chalky, and concerns appear about heavy metals in certain dark bars.

This is a great tasting chocolate bar. I've only tried the milk and dark chocolates (with/without almonds) but they're all good. Every bar I've tasted has been smooth with a fair bite to it. It's difficult to break the bar since it's so thick and (probably for aesthetic reasons) the bar is split in uneven, organic shapes. A bite feels really satisfying once you break it off, partially because it's a puzzle to try and break each piece off but also simply because it's good. I love their mission statement and the fact that they've been Fair Trade since their launch date. It's good to know that a brand cares enough to expose their supply line to the public. Now, here's where it goes a bit downhill. The sugar content. People assume that the higher cacao % there is, the less sugar there is. While that is the case proportionally to each bar in a brand, some brands have much more sugar than others. Tony's Chocolonely is one such brand. They even have a blog report mentioning it. The other issue is lead content. How brands such as Hu, Chocolove, and Tony's can have higher-than-safe levels of lead in their chocolate- I don't know. But Forbes, Consumer Reports, Health.com, and various other sources have written about the issue. If you're really worried about sugar and lead, don't eat Tony's. I've had Taza before, and it's a much better brand in my opinion. I also hear Valrhona is used widely by bakers, so that may be another good place to look! Both are Fair Trade. Overall, Tony's Chocolonely seems to be a great brand with a great line-up of chocolate bars, but their health risks are just enough to turn me away. I'm a fan of Tony's. It's commitment to using cocoa that is slavery-free is what initially attracted me. The taste, interesting flavor combinations, witty packaging, and unique imprints on the chocolate bars help keep me buying more. It's quality chocolate. I think I might go have a piece now!

I did like the flavor of the dark chocolate almond with sea salt but I do not like the mold they use for the bar. It’s strange and not proportional. I disliked it so much that I stopped buying the bars because I also wished they had more dark chocolate flavors. That said, it’s good chocolate but there are other brands out there that I prefer.

Not a fan at all. Very thick pieces and have had better bars.

I recently tried the Gingerbread flavor. It was a unique flavor that I had never seen before from the brand. The flavor was just perfect, not too overpowering, with just the right amount of spice. The cookie pieces added a satisfying crunch to the chocolate that I really enjoyed. I had always been curious about Tony's, but the high price had put me off in the past. However, after learning about their mission to raise awareness of the exploitation of child labor, I feel that the price is justified. Supporting this company feels like the right thing to do, and I'm already looking forward to trying more of their products in the future. Overall, I highly recommend giving some of their chocolate bars a try. They're delicious, and the company's values is definitely something worth supporting!

I love the variety of Tony's chocolates. They are not a high end chocolatier but taste is close to them.

Awesome chocolate! Wish it was easier to portion off though. It’s like I get a HUGE piece or a super small one. Hard to not eat more than I should that way.

I found this chocolate very chalky and bitter, and it left a strange taste in my mouth. I really wanted to love it because the packaging is absolutely adorable and I love to give these as gifts because of that, but after trying it myself I don't feel like I want to continue.

Stop cause this chocolate is so cute and has a very classic taste. Very very yummy and affordable. They also ensure they use high quality and ethically qualifiable cocoa farms which i genuinely appreciate xx

Love the chocolate. Very tasty and I love that they have a lot of different flavors. The only sad thing is that they have a higher price than other chocolate bars.

Love the chocolate (particular shoutout to the dark chocolate almond 🤤🤤🤤) but more than that i love the mission. Tony's are creating great products without using child or slave labour to do so and using their platform to educate consumers that our spending dollars have an impact beyond ourselves. Big fan and will continue to drain my bank account to eat all their chocolate and ruin my new years resolution :)

These bars are the closest you can get to an actual movie-worthy Wonka Bar. They are huge. Instead of being partitioned into squares, they are partitioned into various shapes of differing sizes, giving you the choice between a large piece or a small one. They offer many flavors, and every one I’ve tried are excellent. I love their mission of bringing fair trade chocolate to the masses. And, importantly, it is really good chocolate! This is a great company, and I am happy to support them.
