Reviews mention

  • Creamy, luxurious mouthfeel chocolate
  • Inventive, memorable flavor lineup
  • Chunky, satisfying bar format
  • Ethical, mission-driven sourcing
  • Overly sweet chocolate profiles
  • Thick, hard-to-break pieces
  • Inconsistent caramel texture hardness

Tony’s Chocolonely earns strong reviews for rich, creamy chocolate, inventive flavors like Milk Caramel Sea Salt, Dark Almond Sea Salt, and Dark Milk Pretzel Toffee, plus mission-driven, fair-trade sourcing. Reviews also flag drawbacks: some bars taste overly sweet or bland to dark‑chocolate loyalists, the thick, uneven pieces are hard to break and share, and concerns appear about heavy metals in certain dark varieties and salt intensity in caramel bars.

  • I’m not even a massive chocolate lover but this is so delicious, so rich and tasty, I love it!!

  • Tony’s Chocolonely is some of my favorite chocolate. I truly appreciate their business practices, and while the price of a single bar may seem a bit high, the product itself is large. They have a wide range of flavors to choose from but my current favorite is the Everything bar.

  • Off the bat, fantastic range of flavors and delicious.. all while supporting a sustainable, slavery-free mission. I bought these as a gift for my dad who absolutely loves all things chocolate, having tasted a wide range of luxury and other brands. He was immediately hooked and so was I after I tasted it! Definitely recommend if you're looking for a quick, sweet treat.

  • We decided to splurge on the Milk Chocolate and Sea Salt Caramel bars for Valentine's Day and OMG this is THE best chocolate we have ever had!

  • This has become my all time favourite chocolate. The variety in flavours is amazing. The chocolate itself is delicious and I love the sea salt one. It's luxury chocolate, it tastes that way too. I also love the sustainability thing they do and the message they share. Best chocolate ever.

  • Very good flavor. Nice sized bar. It comes in many different flavors.

    I bought it myself.
  • Tony’s is delicious! Lots of different flavors, fun packaging, and I don’t feel like I am contributing to humanity’s downfall when I purchase. The size and quality of the bars make them worth the higher price point.

  • Found Tony's Chocolonely - Dark Chocolate Peppermint tree at an after Christmas sale. So, so good!

  • Seriously the best sugar kick I can ask for. It’s not extremely painfully sweet American chocolates, not 90% real cocoa no sugar stuff. Just the best medium

  • Tony's Chocolonely is a notable Dutch chocolate brand, distinguished by its commitment to ethical sourcing and efforts to combat slavery and child labor in cocoa production. The brand offers high-quality chocolates known for their rich flavors and unique, bold combinations, packaged in distinctive, colorful wrappers designed to highlight the industry's inequalities. Central to Tony's Chocolonely's mission is its "bean to bar" philosophy, ensuring transparency and traceability in its supply chain. It pays cocoa farmers in West Africa above-market rates, invests in their communities, and advocates for industry-wide change to improve sustainability and eliminate exploitation. Despite its success in raising awareness and setting a precedent for ethical practices in the chocolate industry, Tony's Chocolonely faces challenges, including criticism over scalability and maintaining ethical standards amidst growth. Nonetheless, the brand represents a pioneering effort to merge commercial viability with strong ethical commitments, challenging the industry to prioritize sustainability and human rights alongside profitability. In summary, Tony's Chocolonely stands out for its quality products and its impactful mission, serving as a model for corporate responsibility and the potential for businesses to contribute positively to global issues.

  • Delicious!!!!

  • Sustainable chocolate, say no more. Yes it’s more pricey but their wages are fair and the taste is phenomenal. I’ve traveled the world and all I can say is that they are consistent both in quality and price!

  • I love the brand's mission. I am always excited to see what country the chocolate represents. Besides that, the chocolate has a rich taste. There are always some at my home!

  • Great Chocolate, priced right, beautiful packaging. Good for gifting, too.

  • I just love this brand and their products! No matter which chocolate bar I tried so far: each single one was extremely tasty. I like the funny and sometimes weird flavours and combinations of ingredients. The untraditional way of creating different sizes for each piece of chocolate is just one example on how well the concept was thought through. I also like that the whole bar is thicker than others and that you can see the ingredients (not tiny little pieces). Their social cause is exemplary and I love to support them :-)

  • These are so hard to put down! The milk chocolate almond honey nougat is delicious. A great product from a great company making a difference.

  • Chocolate is really good, I love the different flavors that they have and I especially love their mission and message.

  • Purchased a Tony Chocoloney variety pack after watching the John Oliver segment on chocolate processing. All of the bars were delicious and I have purchased again. The bars were scored into odd shaped and uneven pieces which I enjoyed for when I wanted a larger or smaller piece, but may make it more difficult for sharing. Chocolate was quite thick and could be hard to break at at times.

  • This is a great tasting chocolate bar. I've only tried the milk and dark chocolates (with/without almonds) but they're all good. Every bar I've tasted has been smooth with a fair bite to it. It's difficult to break the bar since it's so thick and (probably for aesthetic reasons) the bar is split in uneven, organic shapes. A bite feels really satisfying once you break it off, partially because it's a puzzle to try and break each piece off but also simply because it's good. I love their mission statement and the fact that they've been Fair Trade since their launch date. It's good to know that a brand cares enough to expose their supply line to the public. Now, here's where it goes a bit downhill. The sugar content. People assume that the higher cacao % there is, the less sugar there is. While that is the case proportionally to each bar in a brand, some brands have much more sugar than others. Tony's Chocolonely is one such brand. They even have a blog report mentioning it. The other issue is lead content. How brands such as Hu, Chocolove, and Tony's can have higher-than-safe levels of lead in their chocolate- I don't know. But Forbes, Consumer Reports, Health.com, and various other sources have written about the issue. If you're really worried about sugar and lead, don't eat Tony's. I've had Taza before, and it's a much better brand in my opinion. I also hear Valrhona is used widely by bakers, so that may be another good place to look! Both are Fair Trade. Overall, Tony's Chocolonely seems to be a great brand with a great line-up of chocolate bars, but their health risks are just enough to turn me away.
