The Ordinary reviews and discussion

4.5

Reviews mention

  • Effective acne-clearing serums
  • Hydrating, lightweight hyaluronic serum
  • Powerful exfoliating acid treatments
  • Minimalist, reliable packaging
  • Occasional sticky serum textures
  • Harsh actives for sensitive skin
  • Pilling under makeup occurs
  • Inconsistent retinol performance

The Ordinary earns strong reviews as effective, ingredient-forward skincare that improves texture, hydration, acne, and clarity—standouts include Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, and Squalane Cleanser—while minimalist packaging appeals. Reviews also flag downsides: some formulas feel sticky or pill, actives can be harsh or confusing to layer, certain products (retinols, vitamin C, hair care) underperform for some, and a few report irritation or breakouts.

  • Doesn’t smell good. Used for a month and no change in my hair.

    Feedback

Could have actually made my hair grow.. but it did not.

  • Affordable skincare, but if you're after low-maintenance skincare I wouldn't recommend it. Unless you know what you're after it's overwhelming as there are too many products that do single things, rather than a combined one.

  • This is one of my favorite brands for skincare routine. I tried this product in particular some time ago and it had the effects it promises on me. I advise

I think the brand is very well known thanks to its quality

  • I’ve heard of this brand even before it was used in Italy and, suffering from acne, I really felt like I needed to try it. I was super impressed with the niaminacide 10%+1% zinc beacuse it helped me so much in such a short period of time. I also tried the grip primer and it really helped my makeup throughout the day even though I didn’t teally like the smell

My love for the brand can’t conceal the fact that some of them can be kind of harsh on the skin so make sure to check for allergies or ingredients if you have sensitive skin

  • I’ve used The Ordinary “buffet” serum and the Niacinamide and it helped with making my skin more glowy and free of acne.

It’s a great brand and its affordable which is good when your a student>

  • I've been using the Squalane Cleanser for 4 months and I thought I was going to break out because I have oily skin and I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't, my skin no longer feels dry when I get out of the shower and I'm already buying my second bottle!!! Definitely I loved it and it seems pretty good for the price. I've been trying the glycolic acid for a little less than 1 month and so far I've liked it, I want to wait at least 3 months to write a review of it :) Wish me luck

Do not even doubt it, the price and quality are worth it! :)

  • Overall great brand, love the simple packaging. However the product made my skin a lot worse. I know hyaluronic acid has the potential to do that when you first start using it, however it was 3 or so months later and it still didn't clear up. I have SUPER sensitive skin though and tons of friends who have used the product and have nothing but good experiences!

  • I have tried a variety of The Ordinary products, each doing exactly what I hoped. Thankful for affordable and quality products that are easy to find. I love the hyaluronic acid drops, as well as the buffet. I also love the moisturizer and BHA mask.

While there are kits and quizzes I wish there were a few more. Perhaps a skin cycling set, or at least a guide to help consumers. Because of the lower price point and pure products I think there are a lot of less knowledgable customers.

  • I bought this product on the advice of my beautician because I have problem skin, I have been using it for about three months now and I can say this is a really good thing if you want a good cleansing and hydration for your skin

I did not compare this product with others because it completely suited me, but I can advise it to others

  • Price is incredible for the quality of the product! I find their formulas are good, although their packaging is often a little confusing. I wish the bottles gave a more thorough (plane language) description of what the product should be used for, and how to use it.

  • Good basic beginner skincare. Nothing incredible. It’s simple and focuses on one major ingredient per product, but I didn’t find it effective and quickly moved onto other brands that focus on many effective ingredients in one product.

  • This brand saved my skin during the pandemic, It made me clean out all my products that contained toxic chemicals and animal tested. They're effective within weeks and extremely affordable,

  • The Ordinary’s products are always no nonsense, very reasonably priced and highly effective. Both skincare and makeup is great, and you can’t buy anything like this quality for this price anywhere else in the beauty market!

  • I use their "Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Oil Control Serum" a few times a week for enlarged pores and rough skin. It can definitely help but is very drying. I only use it a few times a week, not too soon before or after using anything else that is stronger than a gentle face cleanser. I use this at night when I'm also using a good amount of heavy moisturizer to counteract the dryness. It has helped the most with roughness on my chin!

It works well on my sensitive skin, but I wouldn't recommend using too often if your skin is persnickety. I also appreciate that it's available at target.

  • I used the ordinary silicone primer and it was amazing !!!! I used it under makeup and sometimes at the end of skincare because it really blurs the pores 🤍 I recommend and want to try more products of theirs

  • Love the simple packaging. Very affordable. I think they work pretty good, but I'm not a scientist and so I'm not sure if it actually works well. I haven't had any issues with this product.

  • My skin loves the ingredients

    Feedback

    Fully read ingredients when buying.

  • Have used several of their products, most are very good to excellent, I have a few can’t live without items from them, a few I’ve upgraded to other brands. My must have is the squalene, it’s fabulous. My so-so experience is the caffeine eye serum, I’d rate it as just ok.

  • I really love my rosehip oil. Used it while on accutane and it kept my skin super moisturized. I still put in on my face every day and i feel like it just makes my skin super hydrated and glow.

    Feedback

The smell is not the best, however it is natural and no added scents so it is very earthy.

  • I recently shifted to the UK and had to curate my skincare all over again. And hence started using The Ordinary products to start with. Their Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum is such a safe bet - simple & just great. I am loving their Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA serum, that's literally nurtured my skin and majorly improved its tone. I am so happy that I landed on the right products without needing to try and test many.
