Stumptown Coffee earns strong reviews for consistently bold, reliable blends like Hair Bender and Holler Mountain, excellent cold brew (including Oatly variants), and wide, easy-to-find selections—so yes, the brand is good and often works as a dependable daily pick. Critics cite pronounced acidity/sourness, occasional bitter or strange aftertastes, limited options for dark-roast lovers, and inconsistency over time in the cup, making it less ideal for those who sip slowly or prefer smoother profiles.

My favorite coffee it truly is hard to beat. The holler mountain is a mainstay and I love changing it up because I’ll never be disappointed. I’v given this coffee as gifts to people who have never had it and they always complement how amazing it taste.

Love everything about this brand
I'm a sucker for the cold brew variations (esp. the horchata). Coffee is fantastic as well, I just tend to prefer some of my local roasters at this price point.

I'm a big fan of Stumptown Coffee. I like how I can find it at nearly any grocery store and they have a range of different roasts. Also love the branding. It makes coffee even more fun than it already is!

It's a bit expensive. When I go to the store and want to decide between Peet's and Stumptown, I feel like I'm splurging a bit to by Stumptown.
Love Stumptown - their beans always make for delicious, reliable drip coffee
I go for this when I don’t want to experiment and I know o want something good.

Interesting example of lame patronizing and complacent customer treatment. Bitching about costs and charging loyal sub members (5lbs a month) more money while you offer new customers a massive 15 % off five orders. WAKE UP AND REALIZE WHO PAYS YOU LOYALLY. YOU OFFER A DEAL TO NEWBIES HAVE THE BASIC DECENCY TO OFFER IT TO YOUR REAL CUSTOMERS. COUNTER CULTURE IS A WEBSITE AWAY We've got an important update to your subscription. Starting August 19, our 5lb Blend subscription will increase by $10 a bag. So organics will go from $85 to $95, and all others from $80 to $90. We know price hikes are a bummer, and we held off for as long as possible, but this change is necessary for us to continue supporting the health of our business and all the people involved in making what we do possible—from farm to cup. You can still count on receiving the absolute freshest coffees you've come to love at the uninterrupted cadence you've come to count on. And your orders always still ship for free. Price increases are never easy, but we hope that the work and passion that goes into producing our lineup of coffees is why you choose Stumptown. We're eternally grateful for you and your impeccable palate. Love, Stumptown

To start, I have to say the customer service was really great. I spoke with someone directly about my first order and she was very helpful. I heard about this coffee through some review. I can’t remember the exact review, but it might be connected to the city the company is based in. I was really looking forward to getting my Stumptown coffee roasters sample pack of three coffees. I have to say I was extremely underwhelmed. I have tried two of the three in the sample pack, holler mtn and hair bender. Are used their recommendations for brewing the coffee. Even with the tedious brewing process, the coffee was very weak and somewhat acidic. The next time I brewed it I increased the amount of coffee substantially. It was still very weak and acidic. I don’t know if I got a bad batch, but I have been extremely disappointed. I am definitely glad I only bought the sample pack. Just for some context, I rarely spend time writing any reviews unless something is extremely good or extremely bad. In this case, the coffee very bad. Thanks for your time. Hope this was helpful.

My husband and I like to drink Kona coffee, which is the Rolls-Royce of coffees. Unfortunately, that is very, very expensive so we were looking to find some other coffee to replace it with. I ordered three different types of coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters. I was expecting to be delighted by it, based on the high reviews this company receives. But sadly I was not! Their coffee is SO ACIDIC, none of us can drink it. I tried mixing it with other coffee beans hoping to diminish the sour taste, but to no avail. It's so bad, I'll probably have to throw it away. And it's not a cheap coffee!

I wish they would mention in the descriptions that all their coffees are acidic and taste rather sour.

I love good bold coffee and we have explored many very good roasters, when my wife surprised me with a box of 4 of Stumptown coffees, I was very excited to try them. All 4 coffees El Inerto Bourbon, Holler Mnt., Hair Bender and Homestead to us all taste very similar and they all have a sourness to them not what we look for in our coffee. Needless to say we are not a fan of Stumptown Roasters and going forward we will continue to explore other roasters.

I ordered this coffee a week ago & still haven’t received it even though they promise two day shipping. I tracked the order via ups… it’s been an entire week and they haven’t even received the item to get the shipping process started. Garbage company with poor business practice, do not recommend.

This has been my second attempt to try this coffee (and to desperately want to like it). Once again I found it to be over-the-top acidic. I simply could not stand to drink it. And, yes, I tried a different roast from the first time. On my first try, I called the company to let them know. Their response was the equivalent of "oh well..." Even though their lack of concern did not inspire me to want to try again, I did (it was on sale at Whole Foods). Once again, very disappointed! This is definitely the last time. Can't say I didn't give it the old college try.

What could have been better? Customer relations...you might have suggested a less acidic roast (though I'm beginning to think they are all highly acidic).

Consistently the best.

Had an oat milk latte and it was delicious! I think they used Oatly which tends to overpower the coffee's flavour, in my opinion, but the baristas were awesome, super knowledgeable and coffee was definitely tasty (but maybe not the absolute best cup of coffee I've ever had). Would definitely recommend stopping into a shop while in Portland though

Not a fan of Oatly milk (way too sugary and heavy compared to others), would suggest using another oat milk.
