My foster kitty wasn't very interested in the knit toys.

I got the wet food, kibble, treats, and toys for my foster kitty from the ASPCA, and she was obsessed! My dog was obsessed with the treats, too...

My first order was a sample box. 1 of my 2 cats liked the Smooth Bird & Ground Bird,  both are made with/ chicken, chicken liver & chicken hearts. They didn't like the other choices which consisted of 'Other bird(Turkey), Cow or Fish' recipes. After 2 months of trying to order the Smooth & Ground Bird, You can't just call & speak to a rep. if you have an issue. You have to request a phone appt through email or text, for them to call you or you have to communicate through email and/or texting.  That was where the issues happened with the quantity & choice of flavor. They sent the wrong flavors, and the wrong quality 5 times, but when I sent an email/ text, regarding the wrong orders, they quickly responded and refunded the money to my CC.  The biggest issue I now have with this co is they changed the original Smooth & Ground Chicken Recipes! 
This was the only recipe my 16 yr old kitty would eat and I mean as soon as I would put his bowl in front of him he would devour it.  He won't touch the new recipe/formula, he tries to bury the bowl! 
To the Smalls Co. ARE YOU NUTS?  YOU HAD A GREAT PRODUCT, now it's garbage 
I have to start all over again searching for a food he likes. 
 

GREAT IDEA--BAD SET UP.  The first send went well.  I have a cat who is at end-of-life and was having a hard time eating.  He loved the first send of Smalls.   Then, something changed about the recipes--cat was not interested and preferred Friskies.  Then, I had to change it to more fish.  Their website doesn't work.  There's a "button" in order to manage your orders and I needed more fish but apparently the changes you make to an order don't register.  I made the changes and saved them.  The changes to delivery time (more money quicker) worked but the entire order was wrong.  Then, as others have stated, there is NO customer service from a real human being.  I had to contact the "concierge" (oh how cute) but received no response.  When I received my latest near $90 purchase, I texted immediately IN ALL CAPS that I was not pleased, as I'd given them two weeks to get back to me.  Basically, they need a new website tech person and they need a HUMAN to answer their phones.  Am cancelling my account and donating what they sent to our local cat rescue.

It was *okay* my cat liked it well enough but didn’t go crazy for it, and I remember wishing there were more ingredient/flavor options. However it is a “clean” product for your pets! 

Ok, cats are picky. I tried the cat version from a dog company and....let's just say, not only did my cat not eat it, but the stray cat and raccoons didn't touch it either. Still, my cats poop -omg, so tried smalls starter box. The first 4 I just had to throw out. No interest.  I left the hard friskies kibble out and she ate that instead. About 7 days in I was half heartedly still trying and only setting out half a packet a day. Eventually smooth bird and fish peaked her interest. A couple days later (she wouldn't touch just the fish which surprised me) she munched on another one a bit. For the next 4 days when I put it down she would eat it, but honestly, it was like she'd look up at me with an evil eye of why are you forcing me to choke this down???? 

Funny thing is, her coat started to seem softer, I noticed she was more energetic, dragging this toy bird up and and down the stairs everyday. By the time I ran out of the starter box she was wolfing it down. 

I didn't want to put her back on the filler crap, so...I reactivated the subscription it took me 30 mins to figure out how to cancel and she would nibble her friskies, but thankfully it only took 2 days to get the new box. Luckily it wasn't completely frozen, so 4 hours after delivery I was able to open one and give her smooth cow, a new one she hadn't tried, it was gone in 20 mins. No side eye. Lol. 

I guess think of it as getting you or your kids off junk food. Yeah, you fight it for a bit, but once you start feeling better....*shrug* if only it was that easy to do the same for us. Lol.

My cats wouldn't eat the food.  Their subscription policies are predatory.  Customer service is terrible.  This is a greedy corporation masking itself as a great pet oriented company.  They don't care about the consumer.  I'm very disappointed with my experience.

None of our cats will consistently eat the smalls product. We tried all of the usual tips such as introducing it in small portions and mixing it with their existing foods. But picky and pickier simply wouldn’t consider these foods to be food. I suspect some of the issue may have been texture. They generally prefer a more chunks and gravy kind of food rather than a pate. We gave a 4-5 different flavors a shot and the last is dying in my freezer, sad and alone with a freezer meal I bought on sale and am afraid to try.

I’m still giving three stars here because the nutrition on these foods seems to much better than many of the other options available. Having food shipped direct is a bit complicated IMHO and expensive but if my cats would eat it we may have tried to make it work.

The frozen rolls of food are super hard to open unless I stab them with a knife. Have you looked into a more sustainable version?

I found the storage container didn't have a great seal. 
I did have one bad delivery where I was not notified and wasn't sure how long the food was sitting outside. Not sure if that's on Smalls or my local courier. 

I subscribed briefly to Smalls about a year ago. Unfortunately my cat is SUPER picky about her food and never fully got into it. I really tried to make it work because the brand is SO cute, and the experience was also great. I ended up donating the remainder of the food to a local rescue, and those kitties were more than pleased with it. In the first 5 minutes, one bit a hole through the bag to get to the goods. 

Customer service was unhelpful when my order was sent to the wrong address. That experience definitely turned me off. 

I had high hopes for this brand but ultimately it missed the mark. I think it's not for me due to how closely you have to keep up with the subscription, feeding, thawing etc. My cat did eat the food mostly.

my cats didnt love it and its very pricey, I wish it was available in stores to supplement the food i know my cats like rather than in a hefty expensive subscription

Update 12/2023: the formulas were further revised a month or so ago and our cats now love it. The packing issues seem to have been resolved as well, and there is a small packing label on the inside of each box.  After searching for another fresh food, our cats just didn’t like any of the other options that use humanely raised animals for their meats. 

Original review:  We subscribed to Smalls last year and while our cats initially liked this food, I believe they recently changed formulas and our cats are no longer fans.  On top of that, the customer service and shipping/packing issues are horrendous.  If we order a combination of the different flavors/textures, we never get what we ordered.  And then, when reporting that to customer service, we get an unsatisfactory response that just makes excuses for the issue.  Most recently, I ordered the turkey and chicken in both smooth and ground textures, but just received ground.  When reporting that to customer service (only via email or text, no phone), I was told that unfortunately, looks like they were just low on the smooth textures and to just use the ground instead.  I wasn't offered a refund, and I find that so unacceptable.  No other company would send something other than what I ordered and expect ME to pay for it.  I'm not sure what's going on with this company but there are certainly issues internally.  I just refuse to pay a premium for this food and get zero service when there's a problem.
