I didn’t think I’d like Lakrids by Bülow as I’m really not a liquorish person, but I seriously like the flavour journey every bite takes you on. Starting with a sweet, (often fruity) chocolate flavour and ending with a complex liquorish finish. Lakrids by Bülow has been my gateway to liquorish. Just don’t tell any of my Danish friends I’ve been converted 😉
These are ridiculously expensive but I don’t even care because they’re just so good. I’ve only had the passion fruit flavor but I had to stock up in the Copenhagen airport before leaving back to the US to share with fam/friends. Really unlike anything I’ve ever had before!

The packaging could feel more luxurious for being so expensive— maybe a glass jar?
My favourite licorice balls. Discovered them at Kästrup on a trip home from Copenhagen and enjoyed every last ball. The liquorice powder coating was so different from other chocolate liquorice products I’ve had. A very tasty and now that I think about it, such on obvious complement to the chocolate.

Lakrids by Bulow are beautifully packaged and the booths so inviting you can’t help but grab a box or two, however, if you are in the Nordics there are much more affordable and dare I say, equally or almost as tasty liquorice balls that can be purchased at the grocery store, even. Just not as glam. Also, I’m boring. I don’t like the flavoured ones. I’d recommend sticking with the original.

OMG. I used to be a solid licorice hater until my Danish husband introduced me to these in Copenhagen. The little licorice balls wrapped in chocolate are so exceptional, I am now an addict. So much so that I stalk them on their website or Amazon or Food52 whenever they launch new flavors. Thank goodness they now ship within the USA because it was torture waiting each year for our annual Denmark trip. SO SO GOOD! If you think you know licorice, you dont. Give these guys a try. Amazing!
