I had the pleasure of meeting the owner of 50 Hertz and was captivated by the story behind the company’s founding. The name “50 Hertz” symbolizes the tingling sensation caused by Sichuan peppers, likened to 50 vibrations. It was my first time experiencing Sichuan peppers outside of a traditional restaurant dish, and the toffee and nut seasoning sparked my imagination. With the holidays approaching, I think this would make a perfect stocking stuffer.

I first got exposed to this very special spice called Sichuan pepper in 2008 by a street vender selling peanuts stir fried with chili oil and Sichuan pepper. It make eating peanuts a special, enjoyable experience. We use Sichuan pepper oil and pepper corns in many stir fry dishes. One we really like is western white cabbage shredded and stir fried with these two ingredients.

It itself is an improvement over chili oil, chili flakes, etc. because it is not as spcy with a very nice after taste.
