COMMUNITY FEATURE

Hi Sue, please introduce yourself.

My name is Sue S. Chan (the S stands for Sy-ying, my real name which means "bright idea" in Mandarin), and I split my time between LA and NY. A restaurant industry vet, I worked at Momofuku as the Brand Director during the ‘golden era of restaurants,’ the catalyst for America's food and restaurant obsession. These days, I run Care of Chan, a creative marketing and event production agency that specializes in food events. We’re also an online resource for all things convivial, offering curated guides showcasing some of our favorite chefs, venues, florists, and other event vendors, stories from creative hosts and producers behind some of the most memorable gatherings, and interviews, op-eds, and personal essays exploring themes such as craft and tradition.

What's a brand you recently tested?

How do you think about throwing a unique party in 2023? What are your non-negotiable?

For starters, you need to have good food and wine—preferably locally sourced, made without processed ingredients, from small producers. Life is too short to waste a meal.

What is in your current rotation?

When it comes to food, I’m definitely a creature of habit. In LA, I live within walking distance of Cookbook and Canyon Coffee, where you can find me at least three times per week. I also love going to the Hollywood Farmers Market on Sundays. When I'm in NYC, you can probably find me at Corner Bar, Dimes, Dimes Deli, Parcelle, or ATLA. In terms of music, a friend just put me on to ‘Sue Records' (for obvious reasons), so I've been doing a deep dive into their catalog. I'm definitely one of those people who will find a song they love and play it over and over and over again.

Megumi curtains, a Noguchi light, a Gio Ponti chair with my favorite books, including a book of John Pawson's greatest works and Judy Chicago's Dinner Party, and vase by one of my best friends Dana Arbib.
