Ziba Foods is an artisanal food company that specializes in heirloom and wild-grown dried fruits and nuts from the mineral-rich valleys of Afghanistan. Our focus is on introducing unique products distinguished by their superior quality and flavor. 

We are a social enterprise with a focus on providing sustainable impact to marginalized communities, particularly for women and farmers in Afghanistan.

Our dried fruits and nuts are grown without the use of chemicals or pesticides, and with stable water supplies in multi-generational family farms and village cooperatives. Our heirloom products are varieties passed down through generations with little human interference, and our wild-grown products have historically been available only to the most resourceful foragers. 

Our products contain no sulfites, preservatives, or additives (with the exception of a light dusting of Afghan salt on select dry roasted & salted products).

Our figs are produced using traditional methods that include sun-drying on the tree, hand-picking, and flattening the figs into discs. This process is what gives them their distinctive flavor and texture.

Our pricing reflects our commitment to doing things differently: we pay our farmers fair wages with no consignment and no below-market prices. Additionally, our impact extends beyond just farming, we exclusively employ women at our dedicated factory in Kabul and many of the women are the only breadwinners for their families. Our costs consider these factors to continue making a positive impact in Afghanistan while delivering high-quality and delicious products to our customers.

I tried a variety pack of Ziba snacks and loved the unique flavors/ variety of foods that I already loved like pistachios, raisins (kishmish are my new fave!) And apricot pits that I've never had before but were nice and nutty. I even found them in my local health food store so I am pretty excited to keep enjoying these fun trail mixes and nuts. 

I received a coupon for $2 off my purchase, so thought I would give them a try. I bought the sun-dried figs (the local supermarket only had two SKUs available), and they were ... figs. Not great, but not bad. They claim to be heirloom in some manner, were shaped like little discs, and tasted a tad drier than the figs I am used, but they weren't particularly distinct. I like the company's mission of importing foods from Afghanistan (assuming the money is going to the workers and not the government) and supporting family farms, but at $9 for just over 5 oz., ($7 with the coupon) I won't be buying them again, especially when figs grown by similarly small domestic farms or coops are just as tasty and available for far less.

I love this brand's mission, particularly in regards to creating employment for Afghan women.

The dried figs were extremely fragrant and floral, the smell of them immediately hit me in the face as soon as I opened the bag. The texture wasn't that pleasant to me, it was dry and tough and the actual flavor paled in comparison to the aroma.

The shakhurbai almonds weren't my favorite, they just tasted like any standard almonds I could buy at a grocery store and had a slightly chalky mouthfeel.

The gurbandi almonds are great, with a crunchy and light texture, perfectly salted, and unique- I've never seen almonds that had a crescent shape before. Overall super easy to snack on.

The dried white mulberries were the most surprising for me, I had never eaten a mulberry before so I had no expectations going in. They were very fruity and crunchy.

The baby pistachios had a standard taste, nothing out of the ordinary but were very over salted.

The sweet apricot seeds and kishmish raisins were great.



I dug right in as soon as I picked these up from the mailbox and tried some new-to-me snacks. I tried the Kishmish Raisins, the Sweet Apricot Kernels, and the Dried Mulberries. All of them were tasty and noticeably fresh. These are going to be awesome healthy snacks to keep in my bag during summer canoe trips, long car rides, beach days, and even just for the mid-day munchies at work. Plus, they look awesome, and as they say "You eat with your eyes first". 

The packaging I received was super cool! The assortment of snackable superfoods they sent me was absolutely delicious!! I'm definitely going to order more of these again!

Ok, these dried fruits and nuts are a revelation. I just received the Ziba variety box in the mail and couldn't wait to write about it. The box included nine different varieties of dried fruits, nuts, and mixes sourced from Afghanistan. According to Ziba's website, their products are either foraged or heirloom varieties cultivated by small family farms -- and you can really see and taste the difference. 

I was most surprised by the raw heirloom almonds. Almonds are not my favorite nuts; normally I find them dense and flavorless, and I wouldn't go near a plain one if you paid me. Ziba's raw almonds are light, crisp, and sweet, just a world of difference in terms of texture and flavor. Amazing. I also loved the (totally new to me) dry roasted and salted apricot kernels and the delicious, clearly foraged kishmish raisins, all different shapes and sizes and naturally sweet. Also included and also yummy (my boyfriend and I had to open and try every. single. bag. immediately upon receipt) were baby pistachio kernels, very surprising and tasty dried mulberries (which kind of remind me, visually, of dried morel mushrooms but taste like crunchy honey clusters - so good), sun-dried figs, and two bags of mixed fruits and nuts.

I seriously enjoyed everything I tried, and love the brand's mission to prioritize sustainability, work directly with small farmers in Afghanistan, create jobs for Afghan women, and bring these amazing heirloom fruits and nuts to the rest of the world.  As a bonus, their packaging is so pretty! Just an excellent experience overall. 



I had never heard of this brand before Thingdrop. However, I love all things berries and nuts, so I was excited to try it. I ordered the All Things Ziba Sampler, which consisted of nine single-serve bags. At $1.30 a pack, this was INCREDIBLY worth it. Although this bundle isn't offered on the website, you can purchase the Ziba Variety Pack at $2.30 a pack. The snacks were delicious and I really love the brand's mission. I will definitely be ordering from them again. 

The only thing I would change is to make the packages resealable, as you have to put them in a new container once opened. 

Absolutely delicious... I'm torn as to  whether the packets are too little or too big! I certainly wish they were larger and the contents were available in bulk. But, of course, that would mean I would eat A LOT more and that's probably not a great idea. In any case, the quality is clearly quite high-end and I'm a huge fan. My only warning is that it will only take a taste to have you hooked.

I had never heard of this company before they came up as a "thingdrop," but I really like the mission of providing employment for women in Afghanistan. I received a 10-item variety pack. The box was nicely decorated and everything was packaged very well. I shared the items with friends who gave rave reviews for the trail mix and pistachios and a review of "good but nothing special" for the unsalted almonds. I tried the sun-dried figs, which were a little too sun-dried as they were flavorless and overly chewy. In all, I think some items were better than others but I would give the company another chance. 

The Ziba Foods Variety Pack was amazing--some of the best healthy snacks I've ever had!  Everything was delicious, and even my three children (each of whom is picky in her own way) loved sampling these snacks.  Although everything was tasty, I'm particularly tempted to repurchase the Trail Pairing (a mix of heirloom apricot kernels and wild dried white mulberries--the perfect blend of sweet and salty--nothing overpowering--very balanced) and the Baby Pistachio Kernels (simply the best pistachios I've ever eaten). Given how excellent quality this stuff is, I expected Ziba Foods to be VERY expensive, but when I checked out their website, I was pleasantly surprised.  It's not inexpensive, but I think it's a good value for what you get.

Although you can't go wrong with any of their snacks, if you are just discovering Ziba Foods, I recommend trying all their delightful offerings with the Variety Pack so you can find your favorites and stock up on larger sizes of those!  This is a company that embraces ethical practices AND offers delicious products, so you can feel good about shopping with them.  

What a delightful everything about this. The snacks are so delicious and things I've never eaten before, nor have ever seen available to purchase. I love the packaging, the product, the quantity, and the quality. No notes, exceptionally done. 

I picked a sampler pack up on a Thingdrop, and it arrived right before I was headed to Oslo for a week-long work trips. These were a godsend!!!! Easy to pack among different bags, healthy, yummy, and the variety meant I wasn't just eating a sad Cliff bar when I needed. Though not every snack was to my liking, it was always the perfect thing to have while traveling. HIGHLY recommend for your next road trip, international flight(s) or any kind of long travel day.

I also noticed that my hometown hero deli, Zingerman's, stocks Ziba as well!

Really high quality nuts and dried fruits. Very simple and healthy snacks. I enjoyed trying the variety pack.

I like Ziba (scored it with Thingdrop) but I'm not sure I'd order it in the wild. Let me explain: 

The mixes are all very fresh and straightforward,  with nothing unexpected. Roasted almonds?  Check.  Mulberries? Check.  Raisins?  Check. They provide a variety of combos and single ingredient bags for different types of snacking, which is ideal.  

The thing is, I really,  REALLY prefer raw (unroasted and unsalted) nuts, particularly when sprouted.  I can't help missing that form factor with Ziba. Similarly, I'm not the ideal customer for dried fruits, or literally any kind of sugar bomb (natural or not).  My spouse IS,  but oddly he hasn't reached for the Ziba blends as often as I expected.

My spouse said the raisins were tasty (he's very picky regarding raisins). I personally found the mulberries too dry and sweet (was expecting something more akin to a fresh, wild mulberry,  which is actually sweet-tart). 

If you already know you like roasted, salted nuts and dried fruits, give it a try.  It arrived super fresh and generously proportioned (not too many fruits versus nuts). 

As described but, to me,  not special.  

So glad to have found these through ThingTesting! We love them. The packaging, the taste, the story, all just *chef's kiss*. 

Even my husband was like "can you buy more of these" and that's a big deal. 

Grabbed these from a Thingdrop and was very interested to experience the difference from these snacks and something I might pick up at Trader Joe's. I laid these out as part of a quick charcuterie board and the response was mixed but mostly positive. I agree with a previous reviewer that the dried figs were a miss but most of the other items were tasty and fresh. The natural almonds were a little underwhelming but otherwise, I think I might grab some more of these packs as a healthy and yummy option. I hope we can find them in stores so it's a bit more accessible. 

Loved these. My toddler couldn't get enough, and I was so glad to add another healthy snack option to our rotation. I'd never tried dried mulberries and I'm an instant believer. My favorite is the mix; everything goes great together! Not too salty and not too sweet: just right. 

Trail mixes are what makes this brand stand out, imo! I got the variety pack which has a very generous range of products, and I've been mulling over them for a while. I learned that the best way to enjoy Ziba is in trail mix form.

At first I ate some of the fruits and nuts alone, and my biggest complaint was that the fruits were TOO sweet (esp the mulberries), and the nuts were TOO salty (baby pistachios were my fave, despite the overseasoning). But then it made more sense once I tried their pre-made Trail Mixes. I get it now: the mix is a MUST to get the right balance and complexity. Apricot kernels and Mulberries were a perfect pairing. The Fruit & Nut Trail Mix is also a well rounded flavor mix. Now I know, and with the leftover individual fruit and nut packs, I'm interested in creating my own trail mix blends.

That said, a few of them did taste fine alone (kishmish raisins, raw heirloom almonds, and the apricot kernels), but mixing them together elevates it overall.

Love being introduced to new healthy snack/ingredients, and love the ethos and design of the brand. Will buy these again for a charcuterie board!

So glad I got this through the ThingDrop a few weeks back. I'm still going through some of the other packs but I can already tell this brand really stands by their mission and quality. These taste MUCH better than what you would traditionally get from a grocery store; they have more of a 'real' taste to them and feel fresh. Now I know what I've really been missing out on.

Really love their baby pistachios, apricot kernels, and the trail mix — perfect blend of sweet and savory.
