The Ordinary reviews and discussion

Reviews mention

  • Ingredient-transparent formulations
  • Clinically effective actives
  • Minimalist, fragrance-free options
  • Wide, customizable range
  • Occasional sticky textures
  • Potential irritation from actives
  • Hit-or-miss product efficacy
  • Confusing layering for beginners

The Ordinary earns strong reviews for being effective and ingredient-focused: many users report clearer, smoother, more hydrated skin from staples like Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, and the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. Reviews also flag weaknesses: some formulas feel sticky or pill, certain actives (retinoids, vitamin C, high-percentage acids) can irritate or be too harsh, results can be hit-or-miss by product or skin type, and the range can be confusing without research.

  • Can't say enough about The Ordinary's Niacinamide. The product is not only effective, but it's affordable and accessible (not something you can often say about skincare or beauty goods.)

  • I don't know anything about skincare. Now I do. Was confused about skincare. Now I'm not. Best line for entry level skincare folks who don't know anything but are interested in transparency, low ingredient count, and affordability.

  • Absolutely top shelf beauty care with a not-so top shelf price. I use a bunch of The Ordinary products and for beginners, highly recommend Buffet, their face wash, and their Granactive Retinoid 2% serum. Their products are aligned to different skin types. If you answer a few questions online, they offer great advice for building your regime. The prices are great and single ingredient products help you feel confident you’re getting what you need. Love The Ordinary.

  • For skin care, I think it's a good place for someone new to get started. You can't be the price for any of the products. I'm on my 2+ bottle of the Hyaluronic Acid 2% and AHA 30%+BHA 2% Peel--they are staples. I've used the Buffet and a few others of the serums/acids as well. Again, for the cost of The Ordinary products compared to others in the market, you can't beat them!

Be careful of how you layer the products. Some of the serums/acids don't mix well together, so make sure you do your research on pairing of products.

  • HYPEDDDD. I have combination skin and these products did nothing for me. I used the whole bottle and it was such a let down. Try it cause it’s cheap if you want but damn, cheap is cheap.

  • I would give this brand higher stars if possible. I have tried several of their products - The Buffet, Hyaluronic Acid 2% +B5 serum, Multi-Peptide serum for hair, Lactic Acid serum, Caffeine solution 5% and others. All are an amazing value. My favorites are the Lactic Acid (which I use at night) and The Buffet which is - as the name implies - an all around serum that I use both day and night. I didn’t really notice much from the hair serum but haven’t stayed with it so maybe that is it. This is a great company though and I look forward to continuing to explore their other products.

  • Some products are a miss, but the basics are GREAT. I love their hyalaronic and moisturizer. Their cleansers are also great!

  • Huge fan of everything from The Ordinary. From the vitamin-C to the niacinamide to the moisturizers you can't go wrong. Love their stores in NYC, very knowledgable staff who can help with any questions you might have. Men don't pay enough attention to skincare and The Ordinary is a great way to familiarize yourself with everything your skin needs.

  • I tried the virgin Marula oil and loved the price point and accessibility. The product itself was great and bottle size was also good for the cost.

Loved the affordable price point and very easily accessible products. I love that there are a wide range of products from this brand that cater to all skin types. Would definitely recommend this brand to people looking for good quality skin care in the low price range.

  • really affordable skincare! i love the cost and that you can really personalize ingredients you want to include in your skincare routine.

if you don’t know what the product should treat it can be difficult selecting what is right for your skin concerns.

  • Products work great in skin care routine. Great for troubled skin at a decent price! Good ingredients and gentle on the skin

More products in the line! Also the chemical peel product is a little harsh even with recommended use

  • Very impressed with their choice of ingredients and transparency. I always opt for non-scented cosmetic goods when I can and The Ordinary does this well without the high pricing.

  • I couldn't use retinol (and several other skincare favorites!) during my pregnancy, but I still wanted a similar exfoliating product. The Ordinary Azelaic Acid was a lifesaver during this time! I didn't have a good exfoliant that could help brighten my skin during my first pregnancy, but once I found this for my second, I was in great shape! I've continued using it on nights when I don't use retinol. For daytime, I was hard-pressed to find a simpler, more effective Hyaluronic Acid than the one by The Ordinary and now I'm on my second bottle. For simple skincare with good formulations, you can't beat The Ordinary for the price.

  • I have used the caffeine drops for my undereyes and I must say -- they've never looked better!

  • I think The Ordinary is a great accessible and easy way for people to get into skincare and experiment with single ingredients to find what works for them. Not all of their products are winners, but I definitely have a few that I always recommend to people. I love how affordable it is and easy to find at Ulta, Target etc. Makes skincare easier for everyone.

  • Accessible pricing. No fuss, no frills, straight up delivery of simple and essential ingredients for one's everyday skincare. I'd say I've done extensive enough research to understand my skin's needs and which ingredients, as well as the sequencing, that best suits me. That said, even then, I found myself pouring over the shelves, trying to understand the unique benefit to each of the ingredients.

A suggestion: providing a more useful guide for building a package or combo that best addresses specific skincare needs. The labeling on the shelves within Sephora were not extremely intuitive, at least for me.

  • Just okay, did not see result .. but the I did try : Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Hydrating Serum and I REALLY RECOMMEND

  • affordable and easy to use especially if youre new to skincare! would definitely recommend esp if youre acne prone. I use the toner for my face as well as for my underarm (it helps with body odor/sweating/discolor).

  • Great budget friendly brand that focuses on specific ingredients. Love how affordable and accessible the company makes their products. Takes some time to figure everything out but can be so beneficial.

Could have some more instructions for how to use.

  • Hot or miss. Some products are great while others are terrible. Do your research on each product to make sure!
