Picked this up at a Korean grocery store because the branding was really fun, I love tteokbokki, and the “just add water to a cup” format is nostalgic and convenient. The cup version comes with the dried rice cakes in a pouch, seasoning in another pouch, and you mix it with a small bit of water in the cup before microwaving. This is more of a 3.5/5 given my mixed experience with two flavors. I tried the Original (no photo!) and the Cheese flavors. I liked the Original better than the Cheese, and they’re generally tasty and extremely quick to make. But I’d still rather just get a frozen or refrigerated premade pack of tteokbokki. Flavor: - Original - gochujang-esque (idk if they actually use gochujang because the ingredients just say red pepper), mild spicy kick - Cheese - too sweet for me. I didn’t clock that they advertise it as being sweet, and I assumed it would be a classic Mac and cheese flavor (but with Korean rice cakes) Portion: - You end up with 1 cup of tteokbokki, which is a nice snack size. But it looks like so little because it only comprises about half the cup. - The actual tteokbokki size is smaller than what I have at restaurants, but I don’t see that as a con. It’s easier to eat with the smaller size imo. Texture: - The tteokbokki texture is what I expected. - The cheese sauce clung pretty well. - The Original one was super watery, even though I didn’t go over the water line. I tried microwaving it an extra 30s to see if it thickened it more, but that didn’t work. I ended up pouring the extra sauce into a jar and I’m gonna use it when I cook some other food later.
