Joe'y was founded by Brendan Smith, a former college track and field athlete who discovered he had a heart condition at a young age that prompted him to find a way to cut back on caffeine while keeping all the things he loved about coffee. Shortly after the company’s founding, he brought on his first employee –
his mom – who heads up the café side of the business to this day.
