Reviews mention

  • Decadent, reliable brownie mix
  • Smooth, rich chocolate texture

  • Elegant, gift-ready packaging
  • Inconsistent sea-salt presence
  • Mediocre, overly sweet fillings
  • Mixed preferences on flavor profiles

Ghirardelli earns strong reviews as a reliably good chocolate brand that excels in baking and gifting, with standout brownie mixes and smooth, rich dark chocolate (notably Sea Salt Almond, Peppermint Bark, and Blood Orange). Reviews also flag inconsistencies—some filled bars read mediocre, occasional lack of detectable sea salt, and a few tasters prefer other premium brands—making the core chocolate solid rather than transcendent for everyone.

  • I mean, what is not to like about Ghirardelli chocolate! The Sea Salt Almond is awesome! I am not a dark chocolate person myself but a good friend of mine LOVES the dark chocolate. The darker the better.

  • I really appreciate how smooth this chocolate is. I enjoy the dark chocolate options especially the ones with caramel, salted caramel, and peppermint. The regular bars are also great. Sometimes I use them in baking as well!

  • Good quality yum, made from real ingredients and no junk.

  • If you're looking for some high quality chocolate then you've found the right place. I love using Ghirardelli chocolate chips when I'm baking. I used to just use generic chocolate chips when I baked a ton, a quanity over quality thing but I've since done a taste test between them all and Ghirardelli wins hands down. Whenever they're on sale I usually stock up, they last a long time in the fridge. They also turn into a decadent hot chocolate and mousse. They're also yummy when you're looking for a quick sweet treat. A couple morsels will set you right.

  • I absolutely adore Ghirardelli chocolates! There's just something about indulging in their rich, velvety creations that makes me feel truly fancy. And let's not forget the packaging – it's elegant and adds a touch of luxury to the entire experience. Ghirardelli chocolates are a delightful treat that elevates any moment into a special occasion.

  • I haven't had anything from Ghirardelli that I didn't like. So many options.

  • I love this chocolate. Of course, my favorite is the caramel. The chocolate is amazing, the caramel makes me feel like I'm doing something terrible for me, but I can't help it! It's creamy, it's not "general" chocolate which also brings me to my next point. It's also more expensive. However, indulging here and there is never wrong. I prefer the regular milk chocolate to the dark chocolate. If it is there, I'm going to eat it though!

  • With my favorites being their Rasberry Dark Chocolate and their Milk Chocolate Carmel squares, I adore buying these and eating them at home, work, or the movies.

  • I have loved their chocolate since I was young. When I see Ghirardelli, I immediately think of fireplaces next to snow covered windows. Ghirardelli's chocolate is what I pick up to settle into a good book or a self care Sunday. I absolutely love this chocolate.

  • For home baking with bulk chocolate (i.e. not chocolate chips--but chocolate, like for brownies or a ganache), Ghirardelli is the gold standard. They have milk chololate, white, and varying cacao levels of dark. They also make bags of lovely little squares of individually wrapped dark chocolate candies--sea salt almond is almost an addiction for me. They're about 1" square, but so rich, I usually only eat one (something I NEVER do), so I get my sweet on without a huge hit to the calorie counter. Plus dark chocolate is good for you, so win-win, right?
