This laptop is an engineer marvel in 2023! I am not overstating this. Framework is a company that produces a titular laptop with all parts being modular and replaceable. From the 4 dedicated USB ports to the amount of ram, nothing is soldered and nothing is permanent. You can even buy the internal laptop and use it for a server with your own designed casing. The laptop has one of the best touchpads, the keyboard is pretty competent, and the screen is a unique squarish UHD display. The packaging is awesome as it is all printed cardboard that looks really cool. All in all, I am very happy to own a second-generation model.

We purchased a Framework laptop in late 2022 from the website, and have been using it daily since then. Most of the devices in our home, including laptops, are made by Apple, and we had purchased laptops to run Windows 10 and 11 from Costco in order to run specialized software and interface with associated hardware. Apple devices are hard to repair, and the commercial laptops from Costco weren't much better. I have made a couple of changes to the Framework laptop that were non-trivial, but it was pretty easy to replace existing parts just using a screwdriver. Replacing a cooling fan and upgrading memory took about 30 minutes, and complete instructions on these tasks were available from the Framework website. The laptop is still working quite well, and we have purchased modular components for things like ethernet and digital video that you just plug into existing slots. The laptop is like an anti-Macbook, and shines in that respect. We also like the fact that it is made in Taiwan, and is of much higher quality than one typically gets from Mainland China.
