SUMEI is an independent Berlin-based silver jewellery brand founded in 2015. We work with clean shapes, aiming to create timeless and essential pieces that will suit everyone. Founder and designer Lisa Smirnova wanted to develop designs rooted in modesty and understatement matched with a strong belief in self-irony and experiments. After a successful career in PR and production within the culture and lifestyle sectors, she started SUMEI as a personal project, which developed into a prominent jewellery brand with two stores (Berlin & St. Petersburg) navigated by an all-female team. In 2020 Smirnova immigrated to Germany, setting in Berlin, which led to a natural evolution of the brand, incorporating the local identity and further establishing itself and its signature aesthetic. SUMEI doesn't reference age or gender in its design language but envisions jewellery as an extension of individuality and character. We pay extra attention to sustainability, consciously choosing the partners, whether it is a family-owned middle-sized jewellery production or Italian manufacturer working with recycled precious metals using solar energy. We also reduced the packaging to the minimum, preferring paper and reusable materials. Although we use advanced technologies at different stages of the manufacturing process, our jewellery is handcrafted — almost every step is completed by hand to ensure the same high standards throughout the production cycle.
