Imperfect Foods earns mixed reviews: the mission-driven brand delights many with convenient ordering, varied weekly selection, and occasionally excellent produce and pantry finds, but inconsistent quality and packaging undermine trust. Reviews cite fresh, flavorful staples and discoveries like Impossible meat and Minor Figures oat milk as strengths, while frequent bruised or near-expiring produce, thawed frozen items, excess packaging, and delivery-day rigidity raise concerns.

Really love their mission and promise. We trialed them for about 6 months during the height of the pandemic (when I suspect they were dealing with lots of growing pains). Since we weren't in a major city a lot of shipments came damaged, and we would usually count on a solid 10-20% of each order being unusable. That took a lot of shine off the experience. The ordering experience was great, prices were fair, and it pushed us to try new veggies/fruit that I might have otherwise skipped over at my grocery store. In the end the hassle of dealing with damaged goods + all the extra cardboard waste made it not worth it to keep up with. I would strongly reconsider if I lived in a major city (friends in DC still use and love them) and the goods weren't just being shipped via ordinary mail.

Packaging and Delivery. It's a tough one to get right!
This company helps me shop for everything necessary! I normally go for the veggies and fruit because they are so fresh and delicious!

I think the app can be design better and user friendly. Their business model is great! I would add the story why they started in the app and show places they are helping while doing this
Love this brands mission, and I get great products every week. I’ve found some of my favorite brands for a cheaper price than normal grocery stores, and they offer local produce and healthy, trendy brands.
Feedback
The products do sell out if you don’t order quick enough and your delivery day depends on your location. Wish there was a way to change that.
I had a great experience with Imperfect Foods. But I really think the quality depends on where you're ordering from. My order (in California) was super fresh & consisted of a mixed produce box. But I doubt the quality would be the same if I ordered on the east coast, for example. So keep this in mind before you order.

I think this is such a great concept with quality goods which is why I've rated it so high. However, I think you need to be a little more experienced in the kitchen to really utilize this service. I found that I often was unsure of what to cook and stuff ended up getting wasted - which is the exact opposite purpose of their mission. If you're looking for something to help with easy meals, this may not be your speed. But if you're the kind of person who can throw together a fabulous meal from whatever's in your fridge, this is for you!
It comes in a lot of packaging, in my opinion - especially if it's meat-related. They were also consistently late with deliveries.

More streamlined packaging.

I tried Imperfect Foods and loved the idea of saving "ugly" groceries from being wasted. Most of the produce was fresh, but I had a few issues. Delivery was inconsistent, and some items were close to expiration.
Feedback
While the concept is great, there's room for improvement. A heads-up about automatic ordering when items are left in the cart would be helpful. Better delivery consistency and quality control would make the experience more enjoyable.
I LOVE Imperfect Foods, and I look forward to choosing what to include in our box every other week. They have a wide selection of items, ranging from pantry staples, fun treats and necessities. I use my order to stock up on my must haves. However, be warned... if you don't select what exactly you want you may end up with wayyy too many potatoes.
I've been an Imperfect customer since 2020. During the pandemic, it really helped ease grocery shopping anxieties. Since then, the selection has only gotten better and the box remains our main source of groceries. I find the quality of foods to be great, the customer service is prompt and delivery is seamless. While the prices may be slightly higher than they are at the grocery store, I feel like it has saved me money overall because it eliminates the impulse buys of the store. But I still get to try new things, including a lot of brands I've seen here on Thingtesting.

Eggs are hard to deliver! I've seen Imperfect try different packaging to reduce the amount of breakage, but it still happens. I just consider it the cost of convenience!

I love the concept and the price was reasonable, but certain produce was a miss. I’ve gotten rotten avocados and very small melons given the price that they were. So I would only do it for the certain items. Back when i was juicing a lot I would relying on my subscription for Kale because it was good quality for a good price! It made it easy to try new products because i could just pick something online and it is a better price compared to grocery delivery services.
They're great for some things. We live close to a Jewel which has high cost poor quality produce. Imperfect slots in well for produce and some other mixed items to fit that need.

None at the moment. Would be great to see them expand their list of items.
Love the idea behind it, wish they would invest a bit more resources into their sustainable packaging, but I understand that may be tough given the shelf-life of their inventory of misfit produce.

IF used to be awesome, and I was happy I was able to support a company that at least presented as actually caring about reducing food waste. The past few months have shown a drastic decline overall, from affordability (literally every item they offer I can get cheaper locally) to delivery times being whack (literally never knew what time of day I'd be getting my shipment) to frozen food being delivered thawed (to which the customer service person said oh don't worry, it's still good!) to finally just this week having the box delivered to the completely wrong house. IF, here's a tip, straight from me to you--pay your people adequately, and they might actually give a shit.

It was great until it wasn’t. Once misfits and imperfect merged our account never functioned again. Orders were placed each week for six weeks, orders never went through each week. Reached out to customer service every week to tell them, yet again, the order didn’t go through. Cheery, empty promises were all they provided. Orders are finalized at 11pm every Friday. Customer service is not available when orders fail at 11pm on Fridays. Oh well, I guess we’ll try Thrive Market.

I've used Imperfect Foods (since 2019 and really tried to be flexible as their service found its footing, but since they rebranded to Misfits Market and revamped the website a couple months ago, I give up. First the pros: Excellent customer service; kind, friendly representatives who respond promptly through their chat bot or email follow up; great refund/store credit policy with no questions asked if something doesn't arrive or it's damaged. Now the cons: It's the escalating prices and unpredictable quality that finally got me. I genuinely believed in their mission of rehabilitating unused food. Fruits and veggies were cheap, like $1.50 - 3.00, and it was fun to see the menu of choices expand every year. But now its up to Whole Food prices where everything averages $4 - 6 for common stuff like spinach and oranges. A few select things like apples and herbs have remained pretty steady but everything else has seen a dramatic creep upward, especially packaged items like salads, snacks, beverages and condiments. My bill per week used to be a solid $60 - 70 for a one-household order, now it's closer to $90 - 100. That's not a huge deal considering the rate of inflation, but the quality is NOT keeping up with the prices. Since 2019 (yes, I got in a full year before pandemic and that was a whole other nightmare since they didn't have the staffing to deal with the influx but didn't refuse taking new customers at the expense of existing ones) I've seen it all--whole cartons of broken eggs, obliterated produce from improper packaging, missing stuff entirely, including stuff I don't like or didn't order, boxes delivered to the wrong address, stuff too close to the expiration date to remain in my fridge more than 2 days...SO MANY problems every week that I often felt bad complaining b/c I worried they thought I was a Karen. It became so unpredictable, too. Suddenly one food item I had beloved for weeks and never had an issue with would arrive freezer burnt, stale or half rotting. I was often suspicious of the meat and diligently smell tested everything and never kept anything in my fridge longer than a week. I know they keep overstock food in a deep freeze for long stretches, so sometimes chicken and fish would be slimy or rubbery even if it wasn't exactly bad. Anywho, I've written a novel b/c my heart is kind of broken. I really wanted to justify this company's mission despite the problems b/c they have tried to fix things over the years and I saw some improvements. But it's too expensive to gamble on getting food poisoning at this point. It was really fun and something I looked forward to each week, but it lost its luster. RIP.

One star because Imperfect foods claims to be sustainable and offer a recycle program for the cooler packs and bags yet mine were ignored for 12 weeks. Despite contacting customer service four different weeks in a row, being guaranteed by two individuals it would be addressed the next week, and reaching out to the delivery manager of my area, nothing was resolved. The sustainability and recycling program is why I tried ordering through Imperfect Foods so I am extremely disappointed with my experience. Switching companies that can properly handle a what they claim is apart of their company values.

Mixed quality but saves money and is convenient.

I've been an off-and-on subscriber for a few years. Delivery and scheduling has always been easy and reliable. Over the years, they have definitely moved beyond their original focus of imperfect produce. This is nice in that you can get most grocery and pantry staples in one box now, but their produce options have really decreased as a result.

Could use a wider selection of fresh produce, and work to solve consistent inventory issues.
