Established in 2019, Faceted Beauty® was founded by Lisa Estrella Yang (she/her/hers) from her lived experience of rarely fitting into molds. As a pansexual, gender-fluid, Hmong-American child of immigrant refugees, juggling different faceted identities in various spaces was, and still is, a challenge. At a young age Lisa turned to nail art as an outlet to cope with bullying and depression. She discovered the pure joy of adorning her nails as a form of self-discovery, self-expression, and healing. Through her journey with nail art, Lisa was selected as one of the top finalists in Sally Hansen’s 2014 “I Heart Nail Art” competition, which had over 16,000 contestants. While attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Lisa created a grassroots movement called Pro-self-esteem, where young women from all over campus would gather to talk about various beauty standards and how to self-define beauty. Seven years later, Lisa’s dedication to breaking beauty boundaries brought her to Boston, where she is actively developing top-tier products to make gel manicures more accessible for multifaceted people in the comfort of their homes.
