Cool people creating cool brands:
Meet Margot Lee, founder of No Particular Order
I was first introduced to Margot Lee during Covid-19 when I came across one of her TikTok videos with suggested journal prompts to get people off their phones. Flash forward to now, Margot has created her own journal company, No Particular Order, and I feel like a proud (parasocial) friend as I've watched her company grow. Read on to learn about Margot's 8 travel essentials, her ideal day in Bristol, England, and a special preview of her new product, launching today!
Hi Margot! Introduce yourself to readers.
Hello! I’m the founder of No Particular Order and have been creating content on YouTube and Instagram for over thirteen (!!) years. My content features fashion, travel, and glimpses of what life looks like as I grow my business.
Tell me about your brand, No Particular Order!
I started a journal series on TikTok in 2020 where I shared daily prompts my audience could copy into their own journals. The response was overwhelming, and I connected with over 1 million people who shared the desire to create a space to process everything that was going on. Tiktok felt like the wrong platform to share journal prompts (my mission was to get people offline after all), and so Volume 1 was born- a prompted journal with a different question on every page that writers can use in any order. Today, No Particular Order continues to provide guided reflection through beautiful everyday objects.
I hear you have a new product launching…what were the driving forces behind creating a travel journal?
The idea for our new travel journal, Off the Grid, has been decades in the making, stemming from a family trip to Italy I took when I was 10 years old. My journal from that trip, and the many that followed are some of my most prized possessions and the best gifts I’ve given to myself.
Once we decided to produce a travel journal for No Particular Order, there were many decisions made to ensure the journal was durable, and thoughtfully written with playful yet not-too-time-consuming prompts. I’m so proud of how it turned out.
I’ve used Off the Grid on a three day trip in Antibes, France and my cousin is currently using it over a five-week solo trip in Thailand, so there are really no limits as to how and where it can be used. It will be so gratifying to see all the places the No Particular Order community brings Off the Grid… it’s basically Flat Stanley 2.0.
If someone only had 24 hours in your favorite city, what would you suggest they do?
If someone had 24 hours in Bristol, England, I’d give them this itinerary:
9 AM:
Start your day with a cappuccino at Can’t Dance Coffee in Clifton
9:30 AM:
Pick up a book at Waterstones on Regent Street
10 AM:
Walk over the Clifton Suspension Bridge and head into Ashton Court Estate, an 850-acre park. Head straight until you get to the deer park and see how many you can count.
11 AM:
Make your way to the Courtyard Cafe, located inside the Ashton Court Mansion. Pick up their seasonal iced tea, avocado toast, and grab a picnic bench in the courtyard. Enjoy your new book and take a minute to update your Off the Grid journal (I’d recommend adding details of your brunch to page 26, “memorable meals”)
12 PM:
Digest with a walk through the rose garden, then make your way across the bridge and back into Clifton proper.
3 PM:
You deserve a pint after all that walking! Head to the White Lion Pub at Avon Gorge and grab a pint overlooking the bridge.
7 PM:
Hop in a car and grab dinner at Cor. Don’t miss their sourdough & black garlic butter and cannellini beans.
10 PM:
Catch a movie at Everyman Theatre on Whiteladies Road and enjoy a milkshake for dessert.
11:30 PM:
Close out your day with a few pages in Off the Grid. I’d recommend updating your travel bingo on page 22 and adding the title of your new book to your entertainment log on page 39.
What are some of your essential travel products?
No Particular Order, Off the Grid
Off the Grid is a prompted travel journal designed to be used over the course of one trip, so by the time you return home, you’ll have a personalized, memory-filled keepsake.
Away, The Bigger Carry On
My Bigger Carry-On has traveled everywhere with me. It fits a long weekend's worth of clothes (and that’s coming from an over-packer) and will fit in any plane’s overhead stowage.
Summer Fridays, Jet Lag Mask
I hate packing fussy toiletries, so the Jet Lag Mask is a great one-size-fits-all solution for moisturizer. It is designed for the face but is also great for the whole body- especially in drier climates.
Nimble, Champ Portable Charger
This small, portable charger packs a punch. It’s always reliable and stays alive much longer than expected, plus I can use it for my phone, laptop, camera, etc. It’s amazing for long travel days.
J Crew, Cashmere Wrap
I love traveling with a J Crew wrap because it is more comfortable than a traditional neck pillow. The best part is that once I arrive, I can actually wear it on my trip—it doesn’t feel like a waste of precious travel space or an awkward extension of my luggage.
Merrell, Moab 3 Waterproof
This might be niche, but if you’re looking for a good pair of hiking boots- or shoes to wear for a long day of exploring- I loved these boots. And sue me, but I don’t hate how they look!
Sleeper, Crusoe Tie Front Linen Pajama Set
This is the ultimate luxury, but if you’re looking for a new way to pamper yourself, invest in a chic pair of pajamas. I love this set from Sleeper because they could double as day-wear.
