Most innovations solve a problem. The best ones eliminate a tradeoff. For years, hydration came with a tradeoff: glass felt better, while plastic was easier. We all made our choice and lived with the downside. As someone who has schlepped more glass water bottles than I care to admit and bought more plastic ones than I'd like to confess, I found myself wondering whether we'd accepted a tradeoff we didn't actually need. Then I heard WaterOuaï's founder interviewed and found myself asking a simple question: Why were we still choosing? What intrigued me wasn't the water itself. It was the possibility that we no longer had to choose. WaterOuai sources its water from the Edwards Aquifer in the Texas Hill Country, where it is naturally filtered and mineralized through limestone. The result is crisp, smooth alkaline water. What I appreciate most, though, is being able to hand a bottle to my kids or their friends as they're heading out the door without thinking twice about it. From the aquifer to the bottle, WaterOuai went to remarkable lengths to challenge a compromise most of us had stopped questioning. The company's story feels fitting. A mother's entrepreneurial vision and her son's curiosity led them to question a tradeoff most of us had simply accepted. WaterOuai isn't really about water.
