I am really excited to see what's next for the brand. They covered a lot of bases with this first launch! Though I am not sure it will be in my price range unfortunately. 

Motif's Abundance cleanser was the first Thingdrop I could snag, and I am so happy to have gotten it! This cleanser is a delightfully rich and creamy one with a little bit of physical exfoliation. This is not a cleanser for anyone who wants something foamy and leaves you feeling squeaky clean. This left me with a nice hydrated feeling but might feel like it leaves a film to anyone not anticipating what Abundance is bringing to the table. I might have preferred if the luffa bits - what I believe is providing the exfoliation - were left out. I like to do my cleansing and exfoliating separately, but that's just me. I'm still working my way through this bottle, and I am happy with the results. It's pricey and would be an excellent gift for someone trying to get into skincare but it might be doing a bit too much for someone with a highly curated regimen that works for them. But hey, isn't that true of anything? 

Overall, very excited by this product and excited to watch this brand. 

Wonderful! Very light scent, not irritating or overbearing. Super nice feel on the face, not drying at all. Just enough grit to give some exfoliation without too much. And the packaging's lovely. Highly recommend!

my new favorite face wash and I have very sensitive skin 

The Motiff face wash I got was amazing it has slight exfoliation but not too much and it smells great. My face always feels so soft and clean after using it.

This cleanser is pretty expensive--that's really all that would keep me from buying again. 

The abundance cleanser made my skin feel great--moisturized and noticeably plumper. The scent is nice and so is the packaging.

The smell is not for me, while not overpowering it's reminiscent of old/expired cosmetic. No fragrance would be better.

The cleanser needs to be washed out with cool water, which means you can't use it in the shower, not convenient to use twice a day as recommended.

This feels more like a mask and less like a cleanser as it doesn't wash away completely. Whatever does stay in your face feels pretty thick, but does leave a velvety, moisturized feel. I worry the thickness impacts the absorption of my serum. The packaging is very nice, very similar to Oribe's.


The Ick: 

The whole facial-to-cleanser thing of "30 seconds adds up to 7 minutes a week" feels gimmicky.  30 seconds is doing favors for no one. 

The active ingredients being touted as performance ingredients fall low on the ingredients list. 

There is a physical exfoliant, luffa, (similar to Tatcha's The Deep Cleanse) that can cause microtears and irritation. It is 2023, why are we still putting physical exfoliants in daily AM/PM cleansers?!

If you have oily skin or an oily T-zone, move along, this cleanser is not for you. If you prefer cleansers like YTTP's Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser, Krave Beauty's Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser, or even Cerave's Foaming Cleanser, again, keep it moving. The cleanser's marketed for all skin types, but the surfactants in this cleanser aren't efficient enough to effectively cleanse an oily t-zone. 

The cleanser leaves a residue on the skin that functions like an occlusive barrier. The residue was an absolute nightmare when trying to get a proper cleanse, especially on oily skin. I can see it being a dream if you have dry skin. 

Despite the cleanser not working out for my skin type, I thought that the packaging and branding felt premium. The scent was nice and the overall experience was spa-like. That said, the skincare market is saturated at every price point. Consumers are getting smarter than ever and understand formulations and what actives to look out for. $65 for a gimmicky 2-in-1 mask-to-cleanser works for a very niche market (i.e. the same crowd that still believes in Creme de la Mer in 2023). I can see the formulation, price point, and packaging being very successful with an older affluent demographic in one-off boutiques in coastal neighborhoods like the Palisades. 

I’ve been using it in the shower as a mask and it feels pretty nice! I haven’t noticed any benefits to my skin though. No real change there. The packaging is very pretty but I don’t love scented skin care products. 

I do really like the packing and texture of the bottle-- definitely gives off the feeling of luxury. The texture of the mask as well is nice and feels exfoliating. 

This product felt more like a mask rather than a real cleanser. It doesn't clean through completely and leaves an oily residue. After using it just by itself for a week, I could see my skin getting clogged and had to start up my old routine again. For $65, I'd expect something a lot better. 

Amazing packaging, it feels very high quality and premium.  However, I don't think I would rebuy since the price point is pretty high & you could get comparable products for less.    

I've actually quite enjoyed using this face wash! I like the gentle exfoliant in it.  I don't use it as much day and night time wash, but I usually do use it once every two days, or once a day.  I think it's gentle enough to use at least once a day, I usually use it after working out.  I wouldn't use it as a face wash to get off makeup or anything as it doesn't suds up or anything.  But I've been using it for a couple of months and haven't noticed any adverse effects, and I do feel like my dark spots have gone away quicker.
