After months spent indoors during the COVID-19 lockdown, my family and I searched for a way to reconnect with nature from the comfort of our own home. After hours of research, I decided to construct a raised-bed garden, not merely as a way to grow fresh produce for cooking, but as an outlet for solace and meditation.
After several trips to Lowe’s, Home Depot, and local nurseries, the process of building a successful garden proved to be more time-consuming and stressful than I had ever imagined. My friend (now co-founder) and I kept asking ourselves the same question — There’s gotta be an easier way to do this, right?
What followed were days and months of brainstorming our perfect solution. The result? A sketch of a modular, self-watering planter that would just as easily fit in my apartment in New York City, as it would in my family home in Iowa. It's no surprise that we don’t have the time, space, or guidance it takes to grow plants successfully, it’s hard work — which is exactly how Marly came to be. A simple solution to a difficult problem.
